Earth Day is coming up \u2013 a day that\u2019s all about celebrating and protecting our natural world.\u00a0But in order to take meaningful action to protect the planet, you first must understand your impact on it. How? We\u2019ll show you.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n This year\u2019s Earth Day<\/a> theme is \u201cRestore Our Earth,\u201d\u00a0calling on people to come together\u00a0and do their part in preventing climate change and environmental destruction.\u00a0<\/p>\n Intrepid\u00a0\u2013 and, in fact,\u00a0the travel\u00a0industry\u00a0as a whole\u00a0\u2013\u00a0cannot exist without a healthy planet.\u00a0Many of the world\u2019s\u00a0most incredible places that travellers dream of visiting\u00a0are at risk of disappearing due to\u00a0climate impacts, from tropical reefs to\u00a0the\u00a0Arctic\u00a0Sea.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n We\u2019re proud to say we\u2019ve been a\u00a0carbon-neutral travel company for 11 years and\u00a0are\u00a0the only tour operator in the world with\u00a0science-based climate targets<\/a>. Our\u00a0commitment\u00a0to a cleaner and greener\u00a0Earth is\u202fone we take seriously.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n But to reduce your carbon, you\u00a0need to\u00a0know how much\u00a0you emit.\u00a0In 2018, we revised our reporting methodology in line with Climate Active under the Australian Government\u2019s Carbon Neutral Initiative, and we\u00a0use an external consultant, Ndver,\u00a0to measure\u00a0our emissions.\u00a0That\u2019s how we know that over the past 3 years we\u00a0have\u00a0emitted\u00a0(and offset)\u00a0over 79,000\u00a0tonnes\u00a0of CO2.\u00a0<\/p>\n We offset by purchasing carbon credits associated with a range of international carbon reduction projects. These\u00a0projects include Gold Standard and\u00a0Verified\u00a0carbon standard certified projects, which bring additional economic, social and environmental benefits, including habitat and biodiversity protection.\u00a0Since 2010, we\u2019ve offset\u00a0more than 351,000\u00a0tonnes\u00a0of carbon emissions\u00a0in total.\u00a0<\/p>\n Firstly, it means when you book with Intrepid you can be assured we\u2019re doing everything possible to lower our carbon footprint and\u202fpreserve the natural world through carbon-neutral tours.
