Alabama SUN Bucks will provide a one-time issuance of $120 per school-aged child for grocery benefits for the summer to low-income families.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Alabama SUN Bucks will be automatically issued to school-aged children who have been approved by application or direct certification and attending a school that offers the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Programs. Children who are <\/span><span class=\"s3\">directly certified through the ALSDE in programs such as SNAP, TANF or Medicaid will be automatically eligible<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0for Alabama SUN Bucks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If not automatically enrolled, each student may apply for Alabama SUN Bucks.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s3\">Students receiving free meals through the Community Eligibility Provision will not automatically qualify<\/span><span class=\"s1\">; however, students may still be eligible for the benefits based on the household\u2019s income. Households can visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alabama-sunbucks.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Alabama SUN Bucks<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to apply or receive additional information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe summer break can be challenging for families when children are at home and spending increases because children and youth are not in school and receiving benefits,\u201d said Alabama DHR Commissioner Nancy Buckner. \u201cThis additional money will help families across the state make it through summer break while also encouraging healthy and nutritious eating.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">An Alabama SUN Bucks card will be issued for students who qualify for the program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s4\">Alabama SUN Bucks customer service representatives are available to answer Summer EBT questions by phone at 1-800-443-3536 or email at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alreporter.com\/cdn-cgi\/l\/email-protection#8efdfbfefee1fcfaceefe2efecefe3efa3fdfbe0ecfbede5fda0ede1e3\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"__cf_email__\" data-cfemail=\"25565055554a575165444944474448440856504b4750464e560b464a48\">[email\u00a0protected]<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- CONTENT END 1 -->\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Alabama Department of Human Resources, in partnership with the Alabama State Department of Education, plans to distribute Alabama SUN Bucks\u00a0(Summer EBT) benefits to eligible children this summer, as part of a new federal program.
