Your job as an artist isn\u2019t to interpret the silence\u2014your job is to professionally and persistently keep the conversation moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s talk about how to do that without sounding desperate, pushy, or insecure.<\/p>\n<h2>Assume the Best\u2014and Follow Up Anyway<\/h2>\n<p>If a gallery has expressed genuine interest\u2014especially if they\u2019ve asked questions or suggested a timeframe for showing your work\u2014that\u2019s not a casual compliment. It\u2019s the beginning of a conversation. And like any business conversation, if one party falls silent, it\u2019s perfectly reasonable for the other to follow up.<\/p>\n<p>Send a short, polite email. A few sentences is all it takes:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cJust checking in on our previous conversation\u2014I\u2019m still very interested in showing with you and wanted to be sure this didn\u2019t fall through the cracks.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Include a small image of your work as a visual reminder. This isn\u2019t just practical; it\u2019s considerate. It\u2019s not a matter of talent\u2014it\u2019s a matter of staying on the radar.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve had artists who followed up months after an initial contact and ended up in the gallery because they stayed present in my mind.
