{"id":248770,"date":"2025-05-20T08:40:02","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T08:40:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/advertising\/oklahoma-station-gets-called-fake-news-by-state-superintendent-of-schools\/"},"modified":"2025-05-20T08:40:02","modified_gmt":"2025-05-20T08:40:02","slug":"oklahoma-station-gets-called-fake-news-by-state-superintendent-of-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=248770","title":{"rendered":"Oklahoma Station Gets Called &#8216;Fake News&#8217; by State Superintendent of Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Oklahoma\u2019s school Superintendent <strong>Ryan Walters<\/strong> voiced his opinion about the free press and Oklahoma City station <a href=\"https:\/\/kfor.com\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/kfor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">KFOR<\/a> during a Friday morning press conference after lawmakers rejected several of his budget requests.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The agreed-upon budget from lawmakers this week had the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) realize they wouldn\u2019t get $3 million for \u201cBibles in every classroom\u201d and $500,000 for concealed carry training, among other requests.<\/p>\n<p>Walters\u2019 media gathering had him calling out the proposed income tax cut, but when asked how he would cut it, he didn\u2019t have much of an answer. He also called for cutting property taxes, but when asked how he would cut them, he didn\u2019t have a direct answer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kfor.com\/news\/oklahoma-education\/supt-walters-upset-after-lawmakers-reject-several-of-osdes-budget-requests\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/kfor.com\/news\/oklahoma-education\/supt-walters-upset-after-lawmakers-reject-several-of-osdes-budget-requests\/\" target=\"_blank\">KFOR<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What stuck out to TVSpy were the answers he gave the Nexstar owned NBC affiliate when asked about the status of Oklahoma Education rankings compared to the rest of the nation.<\/p>\n<p>KFOR asked him about it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KFOR:<\/strong> Why would people listen to you when, over the years, we\u2019ve continued to be one of the lowest in the nation when it comes to education? You blame other people, but aren\u2019t you to blame?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Walters:<\/strong> \u201cSo let\u2019s take a look at that question, KFOR gets it fundamentally wrong. You are consistent at being wrong. So we are not at the bottom of education. We continue to see dramatic increases in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. I know y\u2019all don\u2019t care to report facts,\u201d said Walters.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kfor.com\/news\/oklahoma-education\/oklahoma-ranks-near-bottom-of-nations-report-card\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/kfor.com\/news\/oklahoma-education\/oklahoma-ranks-near-bottom-of-nations-report-card\/\" target=\"_blank\">In a survey <\/a>of fourth and eighth grade reading and math results in every U.S. state, Oklahoma eighth graders ranked around 48 for reading and 45 for math. Oklahoma fourth graders ranked around 47 for reading and 44 for math.<\/p>\n<p>He then called KFOR \u201cfake news\u201d when asked about a teacher signing bonus initiative, where the Oklahoma State Department of Education offered thousands of dollars to get teachers to work in Oklahoma schools.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/oklahomawatch.org\/2024\/01\/25\/state-seeks-repayment-of-errant-teacher-bonuses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oklahoma Watch<\/a>, OSDE also demanded some recipients return a total of $290,000, because some bonuses were sent to teachers who weren\u2019t meant to receive them. One woman was asked to return $29,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got an email \u2026 it was like the second week of January, saying I have to pay it back by the end of February,\u201d the woman told Oklahoma Watch. \u201cI\u2019m like, how am I supposed to do that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about it by KFOR, Walters said, \u201cKFOR, take your fake news somewhere else today. Thank you for your time. Any real questions from the media?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In December, <a href=\"https:\/\/kfor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KFOR<\/a>\u00a0was allowed back into<a href=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/tvspy\/kfor-wins-free-speech-argument-with-oklahoma-state-department-of-education\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/tvspy\/kfor-wins-free-speech-argument-with-oklahoma-state-department-of-education\/\" target=\"_blank\"> state education meetings<\/a> and given access to officials after settling a lawsuit brought against the OSDE.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit came about after Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction\u00a0<strong>Ryan Walters<\/strong>\u00a0and Press Secretary\u00a0<strong>Dan Isett<\/strong>\u00a0repeatedly denied the Nexstar owned station access to board meetings and press conferences and placed the reporters in an overflow room.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oklahoma\u2019s school Superintendent Ryan Walters voiced his opinion about the free press and Oklahoma City station KFOR during a Friday morning press conference after lawmakers rejected several of his budget requests.
