traffickers and victims after the US carrier confirmed it was joining the government\u2019s Blue Lightning Initiative (BLI).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Working with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Department of Homeland Security\u2019s Customs and Border Protection (CBP) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aerotime.aero\/tag\/american-airlines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"follow\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">American Airlines<\/a> staff will increase their knowledge to recognize the indicators of human trafficking and take appropriate action.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/blue-campaign\/blue-lightning-initiative\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Blue Lightning Initiative<\/a> is a key element in the federal government\u2019s fight against the scourge of human trafficking,\u201d said American\u2019s Vice President of Corporate Security Gary Tomasulo. \u201cAmerican has long partnered with law enforcement to help fight human trafficking, and we are proud to deepen our partnership by joining the initiative.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-1\"\/>\n<p>The training offered by BLI will be part of a company-provided training for American\u2019s flight attendants, pilots, customer service representatives and other team members.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In total, American currently trains an upwards of 70,000 team members each year on\u00a0human trafficking and how to spot it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining BLI, American was in partnership with the Blue Campaign, which is now a part of the DHS Center for Countering Human Trafficking, a national public awareness effort to educate the public, law enforcement and industry partners about human trafficking.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-2\"\/>\n<p>\u201cThe U.S. Department of Transportation is proud to partner with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and American Airlines to train aviation personnel on how to recognize indicators of and report human trafficking suspicions.\u201d said Julie Abraham, Director of the Office of International Transportation and Trade, U.S. Department of Transportation. \u201cThis partnership highlights the commitment of airlines to combat human trafficking in the aviation sector and spread awareness to members of the traveling public.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The announcement on January 10, 2024, came during National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, which has ran since 2010 in the US.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are estimated to be more than 27.6 million people \u2014 adults and children \u2014 subjected to human trafficking around the world, including in the US.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-3\"\/>\n<aside class=\"cnvs-block-posts cnvs-block-posts-1736683266225 cnvs-block-posts-layout-horizontal-type-2-read-more\" data-layout=\"horizontal-type-2-read-more\"
