They should be ashamed of their silence, and stop enabling Netanyahu to act with impunity.&#8217;\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0REMlanpKz\">pic.twitter.com\/0REMlanpKz<\/a><\/p>\u2014 Financial Times (@FT) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FT\/status\/1920135077448634492?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 7, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>On Saturday came an editorial from The Independent titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/voices\/editorials\/gaza-war-israel-netanyahu-aid-blockade-trump-b2747926.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">End the deafening silence on Gaza\u200a\u2014\u200ait is time to speak up<\/a>,\u201d arguing that British PM Keir Starmer \u201cshould be ashamed that he said nothing, especially since Mr Netanyahu has now announced new plans to expand the already devastating bombardment of Gaza,\u201d and saying that \u201cIt is time for the world to wake up to what is happening and to demand an end to the suffering of the Palestinians trapped in the enclave.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Sunday The Guardian editorial board joined in with a write-up titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/tquJa\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Guardian view on Israel and Gaza: Trump can stop this horror. The alternative is unthinkable<\/a>,\u201d saying \u201cThe US president has the leverage to force through a ceasefire. If he does not, he will implicitly signal approval of what looks like a plan of total destruction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat is this, if not genocidal?\u201d The Guardian asks. \u201cWhen will the US and its allies act to stop the horror, if not now?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be clear, these are editorials, not op-eds. This means that they are not the expression of one person\u2019s opinion but the stated position of each outlet as a whole. We\u2019ve been seeing the occasional op-ed which is critical of Israel\u2019s actions throughout the Gaza holocaust in the mainstream western press, but to see the actual outlets come out aggressively denouncing Israel and its western backers all at once is a very new development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Some longtime Israel supporters have unexpectedly begun changing their tune as individuals as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conservative MP Mark Pritchard said at the House of Commons last week that he had supported Israel \u201cat all costs\u201d for decades, but said \u201cI got it wrong\u201d and publicly withdrew that support over Israel\u2019s actions in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor many years\u200a\u2014\u200aI\u2019ve been in this House twenty years\u200a\u2014\u200aI have supported Israel pretty much at all costs, quite frankly,\u201d Pritchard said. \u201cBut today, I want to say that I got it wrong and I condemn Israel for what it is doing to the Palestinian people in Gaza and indeed in the West Bank, and I\u2019d like to withdraw my support right now for the actions of Israel, what they are doing right now in Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really concerned that this is a moment in history when people look back, where we\u2019ve got it wrong as a country,\u201d Pritchard added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Speaking in front of the House of Commons on Tuesday, Conservative MP Mark Pritchard condemned Israel for its actions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.<br\/>\u201cI have supported Israel, pretty much at all costs,\u201d said Pritchard. \u201cBut today, I want to say that I got it wrong,\u201d he added. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xxIxwY2nOo\">pic.twitter.com\/xxIxwY2nOo<\/a><\/p>\u2014 Middle East Eye (@MiddleEastEye) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MiddleEastEye\/status\/1919824826715214159?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 6, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Pro-Israel pundit Shaiel Ben-Ephraim, who had been aggressively\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Daughterof481\/status\/1920340337857347717\/photo\/4\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">denouncing campus protesters<\/a>\u00a0and accusing Israel\u2019s critics of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/academic_la\/status\/1731453738030940383\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">blood libel<\/a>\u201d throughout the Gaza holocaust, has now come out and publicly admitted that Israel is committing a genocide which must be opposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt took me a long time to get to this point, but it\u2019s time to face it. Israel is committing genocide in Gaza,\u201d Ephraim\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/academic_la\/status\/1916676414797123669\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tweeted<\/a>\u00a0recently. \u201cBetween the indiscriminate bombing of hospitals, starvation of the population, plans for ethnic cleansing, slaughter of aid workers and cover ups, there is no escaping it. Israel is trying to eradicate the Palestinian people. We can\u2019t stop it unless we admit it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is odd that it has taken all these people a year and a half to get to this point. I myself have a much lower tolerance for genocide and the mass murder of children. If you\u2019ve been riding the genocide train for nineteen months, it looks a bit weird to suddenly start screaming about how terrible it is and demanding to hit the brakes all of a sudden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These people have not suddenly evolved a conscience, they\u2019re just smelling what\u2019s in the wind. Once the consensus shifts past a certain point there\u2019s naturally going to be a mad rush to avoid being among the last to stand against it, because you know you\u2019ll be wearing that mark for the rest of your life in public after history has had a clear look at what you did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Netanyahu was\u00a0blindsided \u2014 and infuriated \u2014\u00a0this past week\u00a0by Trump\u2019s announcement that the U.S. was halting its military campaign against the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen&#8221;<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ogltFUldW5\">https:\/\/t.co\/ogltFUldW5<\/a> via <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NBCNews?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@nbcnews<\/a><\/p>\u2014 Trita Parsi (@tparsi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tparsi\/status\/1921745723734806966?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 12, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This is after all coming at a time when the Trump administration is beginning\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/national-security\/disagreements-iran-gaza-straining-trump-netanyahu-relationship-rcna205985\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to rub Netanyahu\u2019s fur the wrong way<\/a>, recently prompting the Israeli prime minister to say \u201cI think we\u2019ll have to detox from US security assistance\u201d when Washington went over Tel Aviv\u2019s head and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropsitenews.com\/p\/hamas-and-us-reach-deal-i-think-well\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">negotiated directly with Hamas<\/a>\u00a0to secure the release of an American hostage. The US is reportedly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/kDs6R\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leaving Israel out<\/a>\u00a0of more and more of its negotiations on international affairs in places like Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. Something is changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So if you\u2019re still supporting Israel after all this time, my advice to you is to make a change while you still can.
