\nSNK<\/a><\/cite>‘s board chairman to serve as interim CEO<\/div>\n\n

Fighting game company SNK<\/a><\/cite> announced on Tuesday that CEO Kenji Matsubara<\/a><\/cite> will step down as CEO and “transition to an advisory role.” During a transitional period, the company’s board has appointed its chairman to serve as interim CEO (the announcement did not say who the chairman was, but SNK<\/cite>‘s website does list<\/a> the seven members of its board).<\/p>\n

SNK<\/cite> appointed<\/a> Matsubara as its CEO in August 2021. <\/p>\n

Matsubara was previously CPO, COO, and president of Sega Games<\/a><\/cite>; CEO and president of Zynga Japan; and representative director and president of Koei Tecmo<\/a><\/cite> Holdings Co., Ltd. <\/p>\n

SNK<\/cite> Corporation was founded in 1978, but the company filed for bankruptcy in 2001. SNK<\/cite> Playmore was founded in August 2001, and the company also developed pachinko slot machines and smartphone games aside from console games, but withdrew<\/a> from the pachislot (pachinko parlor slot machine game) business in 2015. SNK<\/cite> Playmore then changed<\/a> back its name to SNK<\/cite> Corporation in December 2016.<\/p>\n

SNK<\/cite> is known for its franchises such as King of Fighters<\/cite>, Metal Slug<\/cite>, Fatal Fury<\/cite> (Gar\u014d Densetsu<\/cite>), and Samurai Shodown<\/cite> (Samurai Spirits<\/cite>), and the NeoGeo console.<\/p>\n

SNK<\/cite>‘s new fighting game<\/a> Fatal Fury City of the Wolves<\/cite> launched<\/a> on April 24 for PlayStation<\/a><\/cite> 5, PlayStation<\/cite> 4, Xbox Series X|S, Steam<\/a><\/cite>, and the Epic Games<\/a><\/cite> Store.<\/p>\n

The company recently established<\/a> KOF Studio in December, on the 30th anniversary of The King of Fighters<\/cite> franchise. The studio’s website states that it will “proudly carry on the storied legacy of our iconic fighting game IPs while driving their evolution well into the future.”<\/p>\n
