On April 26th, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live hit NYC and yes, it absolutely delivered. Whether you’ve been a Sailor Moon fan since the ’90s or have no clue who Usagi Tsukino is, this musical was an unforgettable ride from start to finish.

Performed entirely in Japanese (with helpful English translations on screen), the show made it easy for newcomers to follow along while longtime fans got to enjoy a new take on the story they love. The energy? Off the charts. The live singing? Spot-on. Every cast member brought their A-game, embodying their characters in a way that felt both nostalgic and fresh.

The stage effects were electric literally! Bright lighting, colorful visuals, and smart use of special effects made the magic feel real. The costume design also deserves a standing ovation, staying true to the anime while shining bright under the stage lights.

A standout moment of the night? Sayaka Okamura as Queen Beryl. Her performance had power, grace, and vocals that filled the whole venue. While the entire cast was solid, Okamura’s stage presence stole the spotlight (in the best way).

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live NYC Venue

The venue itself leaned into the theme, especially the adorable non-alcoholic drink bar—Sailor-themed sips that added to the overall experience. And while photos were off-limits until the finale, it actually made things better. Everyone stayed in the moment instead of reaching for their phones every two seconds.
