That means having access to as little data as possible, and being transparent about the data we have access to, why it matters, and how you can control it. Here\u2019s what you need to know:<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What Data We Collect<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zashi does not collect any data. Like most software apps, it uses crash reports, enabled and generated at the operating system level, to help our team detect and fix bugs. But unlike most apps\u2014even those that claim to prioritize privacy\u2014Zashi doesn\u2019t see or collect any other data. Crash reports are <\/span><b><i>the only<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> data we can see, which is <\/span><b><i>rare <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">among app developers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crash reports provide limited anonymized technical data the sole purpose of which is to monitor the healthy function of the app. They help make the wallet more stable and usable, nothing more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Important:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ECC and the Zashi developers <\/span><b>do not<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> track, view, or collect your wallet activity. When a crash report is generated, it offers limited data needed to figure out what triggered the crash. We do not see or collect names, emails, phone numbers, contact lists, user-generated content, or transaction details.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What Crash Report Tools We Use<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crash reports are stored and processed by Google (on Android) and Apple (on iOS), and like all apps on their platforms, we must follow strict rules about what data is collected and how it\u2019s handled. Violating these rules would lead to removal from their stores.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What Crash Reports <\/b><b><i>Do Not<\/i><\/b><b> Contain<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crash reports are anonymized and only include technical diagnostics like device type, app version, time of the crash, stack trace (which part of the code crashed), error logs, and operating system version.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These reports do <\/span><b>not<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contain:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your transaction IDs or history\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wallet addresses<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ZEC balances<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Personal information like name, email, or phone<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">User IDs tied to Zashi<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anything that could link a transaction to a specific user<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crash reports tell us <\/span><b>how <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><b> when<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the app broke, not <\/span><b>who<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it happened to.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Can You Opt Out?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, in several ways:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>iOS users:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple allows users to opt out of diagnostic data sharing across all apps. You can do this in your iPhone settings. iOS does not allow users to opt out for individual apps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Android users:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google does not allow developers or users to opt-out from the default Google Play Services data collection for Android Vitals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To opt out, Android users can <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/f-droid.org\/en\/packages\/co.electriccoin.zcash.foss\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">download Zashi via <\/span><b>F-Droid<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The F-Droid version of Zashi is fundamentally different from the Play Store version: it is completely free of proprietary analytics and crash reporting tools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Improvements:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We already access far less data than most apps, but we\u2019ve taken additional steps to limit data collection even further:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For iOS, we\u2019ve removed Firebase Crashlytics completely (Zashi iOS v1.5.2).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ve implemented a possibility to opt-out of Firebase Crashlytics for Android. Users can opt out of sharing crash reports in Zashi\u2019s Advanced Settings. (Zashi Android v1.5.2)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Android, we\u2019ve set Firebase Crashlytics to be \u201cOff\u201d by default. Users can choose to opt in through Zashi\u2019s Advanced Settings or the wallet\u2019s status widget. (Zashi Android v2.0)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ve updated the F-Droid version, removing the incorrect security warning, which falsely implied that the F-droid version collects crash reports. That was never the case.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>F-Droid &amp; GitHub: Full Transparency<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/f-droid.org\/en\/packages\/co.electriccoin.zcash.foss\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zashi is available on F-Droid<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an independent app store that prioritizes open-source, privacy-respecting software. Unlike traditional app stores, F-Droid does not track or profile users, and it allows for completely anonymous downloads. The F-Droid version of Zashi is fully open-source and includes no crash reporting tools whatsoever.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The F-Droid Zashi build is completely reproducible, and we encourage our community to build it and verify our work. This helps identify and mitigate potential threats to our infrastructure, processes, and the third-party services we depend on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can also build the app yourself from source.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zashi code is completely open source and available on GitHub:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electriccoin.co\/blog\/zashi-on-github-f-droid-more-ways-to-download\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read more<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> about alternative ways to download Zashi wallet.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Philosophy: Privacy by Design<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many wallets claim to prioritize privacy, while quietly collecting analytics and user behavior. Zashi doesn\u2019t just claim it\u2014we live it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We don\u2019t see or collect user and app data. We don\u2019t profile users. We don\u2019t track their activity. And we go out of our way to minimize metadata leakage. Zashi is built by the same team that created and maintains the Zcash protocol\u2014the most advanced privacy tech in the blockchain industry. We apply the same standards to app development that we do to protocol-level privacy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We welcome scrutiny\u2014especially in privacy tech. But conversations about privacy and user safety must be grounded in facts, not fear or speculation.
