It\u2019s a VERY different story. <\/h2>\n<p>Since the Federal Reserve started in 1913, the dollar has lost almost ALL of its purchasing power. <\/p>\n<p>And while that might sound like economic talk, here\u2019s what it means for you and me: <a href=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/dollar-collapse\/\">the money in our wallet is constantly losing its ability to buy things<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So here\u2019s a real-world example that makes this super clear. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Back in 1913, you could buy a loaf of bread for about 6 cents. <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Today? <\/p>\n<p>That same loaf costs $5.28. <\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not because bread got better \u2013 it\u2019s because our dollars got much, much weaker.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"854\" height=\"513\" src=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Price-of-Bread.jpg\" alt=\"inflation and the cost of bread\" class=\"wp-image-58823\" style=\"width:701px;height:auto\" title=\"Gold vs Inflation: How gold protects your money (and why I am buying more) 3\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Price-of-Bread.jpg 854w, https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Price-of-Bread-325x195.jpg 325w, https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Price-of-Bread-600x360.jpg 600w, https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Price-of-Bread-150x90.jpg 150w, https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Price-of-Bread-768x461.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 854px) 100vw, 854px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What This Means for Our Money Today<\/strong> <\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you have $1,000 saved up right now. <\/p>\n<p>You could:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Keep it in dollars:<\/strong> Today, you can buy 189 loaves of bread ($1,000 \u00f7 $5.28 per loaf). But in 50 years? Based on what we\u2019ve seen over the last century, those same dollars might only buy 10 loaves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Convert it to gold:<\/strong> That $1,000 would buy you about 0.38 ounces of gold, which historically should still be able to buy around 189 loaves in 50 years just as it can today.<\/li>\n<li>Gold tends to keep its value, while dollars\u2026 well, you see what happens to dollars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Of course, this assumes things continue as they have historically for the last 100 years- and as we know, past performance doesn\u2019t guarantee future results. But it\u2019s something to think about!<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Important Notes About This Analysis:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All bread prices are standardized to ~1kg loaves for fair historical comparision.<\/li>\n<li>Modern industrialization likely masks even greater historical consistency. Today\u2019s mass-produced bread differs significantly from historical sourdough made with organic ingredients. If comparing identical quality bread, the loaves-per-ounce ratio would likely show even more stability. <\/li>\n<li>Similar patterns appear with other quality food commodities:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Quality Wine:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ancient Rome: 1 oz gold = ~400 liters<\/li>\n<li>Today ($2,615\/oz): ~348 liters ($30\/bottle)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Quality Olive Oil:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ancient Rome: 1 oz gold = ~200 liters<\/li>\n<li>Today ($2,615\/oz): ~145 liters ($18\/liter)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>While you could <a href=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/1000-2\/\">earn interest by keeping money in savings accounts<\/a> rather than cash, it doesn\u2019t solve the fundamental problem. Over the past 50 years, inflation has consistently eaten away at purchasing power faster than typical savings rates. Even today, with \u201chigh-yield\u201d savings accounts offering 4-5%, inflation often runs higher, meaning your money still loses real value over time.\n<p>Gold, on the other hand, has historically maintained its purchasing power regardless of inflation rates or banking yields. It\u2019s not about maximizing returns \u2013 it\u2019s about preserving what you already have.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What I am doing with this info <\/h2>\n<p>To me, seeing these charts with this much clarity makes me really fearful of having anything other than the bare minimum sitting in US Dollars. <\/p>\n<p>Obviously, it isn\u2019t easy to pay bills with gold coins, so we will, of course, still be using USD, but it has me moving <a href=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/savings-goal-calculator\/\">more of my savings<\/a> (that I actually want to maintain purchasing power) into Gold.<\/p>\n<p>There are tons of ways to buy gold, but I\u2019ll share exactly what we are doing right now\u2026 <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/OneGold\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"465\" height=\"964\" src=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ways-to-buy-gold.jpg\" alt=\"how I am buying gold \" class=\"wp-image-58824\" style=\"width:337px;height:auto\" title=\"Gold vs Inflation: How gold protects your money (and why I am buying more) 4\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ways-to-buy-gold.jpg 465w, https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ways-to-buy-gold-157x325.jpg 157w, https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ways-to-buy-gold-289x600.jpg 289w, https:\/\/seedtime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ways-to-buy-gold-72x150.jpg 72w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 465px) 100vw, 465px\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">We are auto-purchasing Gold each week using OneGold.<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/seedtime.com\/OneGold\">OneGold<\/a> is a site where you can buy gold for as little as $10 and can do it automatically. After looking at a lot of other options, they are my favorite for a few reasons:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can automate the purchases, so you can set it and forget it and automatically build up your Gold savings.<\/li>\n<li>They have the lowest fees of any dealer that I found.<\/li>\n<li>You can easily sell your gold back to them at any time and transfer funds back to your bank account.<\/li>\n<li>You can have them store the gold (insured) or you can ask them to send it to you. Not because I\u2019m trying to get rich quickly but because I want to ensure my savings can still buy the same basket of goods decades from now.<\/p>\n<p>Prayerfully consider taking a small step today to protect your purchasing power \u2013 even if it\u2019s just setting up a $25 monthly auto-purchase like we are.
