They make me reflect and think!)<\/p>\n<p data-slot-rendered-content=\"true\">Before the do nothing subject, a reminder about my post this week\u2026<\/p>\n<p data-slot-rendered-content=\"true\"><strong>Yay!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-slot-rendered-content=\"true\">We crossed a HUGE new major forward dividend income milestone this month even after the small BCE dividend cut we incurred (since we just don\u2019t own very many BCE shares any longer \u2013 long since sold most in 2023 and also sold more in 2024, highlighted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myownadvisor.ca\/june-2024-dividend-income-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in this June 2024 post<\/a> that a dividend cut should be coming in 2025\u2026.it has arrived\u2026)<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"88DBSxb0Sa\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myownadvisor.ca\/april-2025-dividend-income-update\/\">April 2025 Dividend Income Update<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content lazyload\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"\u201cApril 2025 Dividend Income Update\u201d \u2014 My Own Advisor\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.myownadvisor.ca\/april-2025-dividend-income-update\/embed\/#?secret=6ObWbSK3eK#?secret=88DBSxb0Sa\" data-secret=\"88DBSxb0Sa\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p data-slot-rendered-content=\"true\">With the recent 7% Telus dividend increase in particular this week over last year, it will be interesting to see where we might end up next month!?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Weekend Reading \u2013 Do Nothing<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I don\u2019t know about you, but I don\u2019t know <em>anyone<\/em> personally who got rich quickly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"block-yui_3_17_2_1_1739437975672_240014\" class=\"sqs-block html-block sqs-block-html\" data-block-type=\"2\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<div class=\"sqs-html-content\">\n<p class=\"\">Instead of hoping or following some get rich scheme, we\u2019ve been on a much more boring yet somewhat predictable get wealthy eventually path for 20 years now. Wealth building and investing seems no different.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Pay off your debt\/get debt-free.<\/li>\n<li>Save your money.<\/li>\n<li>Develop a long-term investing plan.<\/li>\n<li>Invest your money in products\/investments that align with your plan.<\/li>\n<li>Stick with your plan as much as you can.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myownadvisor.ca\/weekend-reading-keeping-investing-simple\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Learn to keep saving and investing very, very simple.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This Weekend Reading edition was inspired by this article in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/investing\/investment-ideas\/article-the-best-advice-for-investors-right-now-do-nothing-really\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Globe and Mail (subscription) <\/em>entitled:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong><em>\u201c<\/em><span style=\"color: #23292b;\">The best advice for investors right now: Do nothing. Really.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"l-grid l-grid--main\">\n<div id=\"c0f3F47tDNih73u\" class=\"default__LayoutContainer-sc-1puaqpm-0 gzbPxE\">\n<section class=\"default__StyledArticleMeta-sc-j9q6w6-0 dCnxlb text-gmr-5 c-article-meta\" data-sophi-feature=\"article meta\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThere are two reasons to invest in stocks that pay dividends. One is to improve the portfolio\u2019s total returns, accomplished by reinvesting their payouts. The other is to generate retirement income. Rather than reinvest dividends, retirees could spend them. In effect, dividend stocks would substitute for cash or bonds.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Some of the article conclusions:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"mdc-story-body__paragraph__mdc mdc-story-body__paragraph--large__mdc mdc-story-body__block__mdc\"><strong>\u201cWe have now addressed the first two potential benefits of adding dividend stocks to a portfolio: higher returns and lower risk.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"mdc-story-body__paragraph__mdc mdc-story-body__paragraph--large__mdc mdc-story-body__block__mdc\"><strong>\u201cThe third potential benefit, as previously mentioned, is portfolio diversification. After all, as Dr. Harry Markowitz\u00a0taught us, investment contributions should be measured in context, not isolation.
