Belfast International Airport has launched the first phase of its \u00a3100 million five-year investment program, consolidating itself further as a cornerstone of the VINCI<\/a> network.<\/p>\n

The First Phase<\/h2>\n

Northern Ireland\u2019s First Minister Michelle O\u2019Neill and deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly joined VINCI executives on 6th May to inaugurate the airport\u2019s upgrades.<\/p>\n

The opening phase of the airport\u2019s five-year plan, comes in the form of a \u00a325 million investment to improve customer experience with terminal upgrades. Now open, is a 1,600 m\u00b2 duty-free store, in an effort to integrate the shopping, dining and travel essential experience into a modern, passenger-friendly space.<\/p>\n

Along with this, there is a new state of the art Security Hall. Featuring a new spacious layout, and more advanced scanning tech, the investment will help usher in a new age of efficiency and convenience. Notably, the new security apparatus will eliminate the need to separate liquids and electronics from hand luggage.<\/p>\n

Development Significance<\/h2>\n

With plans for further investment over the next three years, this initial investment solidifies the Northern Irish airline\u2019s intention and commitment to modernising their infrastructure. What must also not be understated, is the impact Belfast International plays in regional tourism and the regional economy.<\/p>\n

Belfast International Airport Chief Executive, Dan Owens reinforces the significance:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we started this process around two years ago, we were focused on our goal to transform the passenger experience at Belfast International Airport. Today we can say we have made significant progress in achieving that goal. We provide employment for over 4000 people connecting almost 7 million passengers across our airline network. As the economic driver for this region in terms of economic development and tourism growth we are committed to further enhancing the passenger experience while also working with our airline partners to develop our network of routes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The terminal improvements, plus it\u2019s future investment plans, position Belfast International to set a benchmark for innovation in regional aviation.<\/p>\n
