Katie Britt, R-Alabama, reintroduced a piece of legislation Wednesday seeking to expand resources offered by the federal government for expecting and postpartum mothers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.britt.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/MOMS-Act_Bill-Text_119.pdf\">The More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed Act<\/a>, sponsored by Britt and U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Missouri, would establish a government website, Pregnancy.gov, offering lists of available resources for pre and post-natal care.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britt.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/u-s-senators-katie-britt-kevin-cramer-eric-schmitt-introduce-moms-act-to-help-build-culture-of-life-support-women-strengthen-families\/\">press release<\/a> from Sen. Britt\u2019s office says the MOMS Act seeks to \u201cincrease access to adoption agencies, pregnancy resource centers, and other relevant public and private resources available to pregnant women near their zip code and surrounding areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Britt\u2019s office said resources included by the bill would include both health and well-being services, alongside financial, material and legal support\u2014including a list of federally funded pregnancy support opportunities available through non-profit or healthcare organizations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The MOMS Act would also establish a grant program for non-profit entities \u201cto support, encourage, and assist\u201d women in carrying their pregnancies to term and in providing postnatal care for their children.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe Republican Party is the party of life, the party of parents, and the party of families. At the heart of the MOMS Act is building a comprehensive culture of life to give moms, children, and families the support system they need to thrive and live their American Dream,\u201d Britt said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAs a mom myself, I don\u2019t have to wonder what other moms are facing \u2013 I\u2019m living it. I know firsthand that there is no greater blessing in life than our children, and I also understand the types of challenges that women face during their pregnancy journeys and while raising their kids,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m proud to support women throughout these seasons of motherhood, and the MOMS Act is part of my continued commitment to fight on their behalf.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div class=\"zox-post-ad-wrap\"><span class=\"zox-ad-label\">Advertisement. I\u2019m glad to introduce this bill to help ensure moms have the resources they need and help set families on the path to achieving the American dream,\u201d said Schmitt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Senator Britt\u2019s press release announcing the MOMS Act\u2019s refiling ahead of Mother\u2019s Day mentions decreasing U.S. birth rates, alongside maternal care deficits in Alabama, as reasons for the bill\u2019s necessity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The press release cites a Wall Street Journal report on the U.S.\u2019s 2023 and 2024 birth rates, which reached and remained near their lowest point since 1979, a datapoint Brit\u2019s office called \u201ca continued, concerning trend in America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Britt\u2019s office also cites research that classified <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marchofdimes.org\/peristats\/reports\/alabama\/maternity-care-deserts\">over a third<\/a> of Alabama\u2019s 67 counties as \u201cmaternity care deserts\u201d without reliable access to birthing facilities or maternity care providers. The state\u2019s high <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marchofdimes.org\/peristats\/reports\/alabama\/report-card\">infant mortality rate <\/a>and recent closures of three hospitals\u2019 labor and delivery facilities were also included as reasons for the bill\u2019s necessity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The MOMS Act was originally introduced by Britt in May of last year. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The bill drew criticism last year from Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wa., alongside 10 other Senate Democratic women who <a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/UP4D-ZS79\">claimed<\/a> the bill would, \u201ccreate a new government-run website to collect data on pregnant women and direct them to anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers and other \u2018resources\u2019 to pressure women into carrying pregnancies to term, no matter their circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Britt rejected the claim that the bill would create a \u201cregistry\u201d of pregnant Americans, with a representative telling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.al.com\/news\/2024\/05\/claims-that-bill-would-create-registry-of-pregnant-women-flagrantly-false-says-staff-for-alabama-sen-katie-britt.html\">AL.com<\/a> last May while users may voluntarily submit their contact information, Pregnancy.com would not require them to do so.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div class=\"zox-post-ad-wrap\"><span class=\"zox-ad-label\">Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alongside Britt, Cramer and Schmitt, the bill has been cosponsored by 19 Republican senators from across the nation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to Sen. Britt\u2019s office, the legislation has also been endorsed by Susan B.
