{"id":230059,"date":"2025-05-08T04:33:08","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T04:33:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/alcohol\/exclusive-news-and-research-on-the-wine-spirits-and-beer-business-120\/"},"modified":"2025-05-08T04:33:08","modified_gmt":"2025-05-08T04:33:08","slug":"exclusive-news-and-research-on-the-wine-spirits-and-beer-business-120","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=230059","title":{"rendered":"Exclusive news and research on the wine, spirits and beer business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<h2>Scotch Whisky Set For Expansion Via U.K.-India Trade Deal<\/h2>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"posted\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shankennewsdaily.com\/2025\/05\/07\/\" title=\"Click to see that day's daily archive\">May 7, 2025<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Scotch whisky industry is set to further unlock the key India market following the agreement of a new trade deal between the U.K. and India.<span id=\"more-37417\"\/> Under the agreement, India\u2019s whisky and gin tariffs will be halved from 150% to 75% before falling to 40% by year 10 of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>At Diageo, the largest Scotch whisky player globally, CEO Debra Crew said the accord \u201cwill be transformational for Scotch and Scotland, while powering jobs and investment in both India and the U.K. The deal will also increase quality and choice for discerning consumers across India, the world\u2019s largest and most exciting whisky market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the current high tariffs, India is already Scotch whisky\u2019s largest export market by volume at more than 12 million cases on an increase of 200% over the past decade. \u201cIndia is the largest whisky market in the world,\u201d the Scotch Whisky Association noted. \u201cBut while many Indian consumers are keen to add a bottle of Scotch to their shelves, bars, and collections, Scotch whisky has just a 3% share of the Indian whisky market (which is dominated by local whiskies).
