The Central Development Working Party (CDWP)<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0has given the green light to a significant irrigation initiative worth PKR 23.835 billion<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0aimed at implementing the Automated Indus Basin Irrigation System (IBIS)<\/b><\/strong>, according to a news report dated February 7<\/b><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During a CDWP<\/b><\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0session presided over by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr. Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0at the P-Block Secretariat, the project titled \u201cInstallation of Telemetry System for Real-Time Discharge Monitoring at 27 Key Sites on Indus Basin Irrigation System<\/b><\/strong>\u201d was deliberated upon. The CDWP<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0has endorsed the project and forwarded it to the National Economic Council (ECNEC)<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0Executive Committee for final approval.<\/h5>\n

Additionally, this advanced equipment will furnish real-time information on water flow and gate positions, addressing control challenges and potential inter-provincial conflicts. By ensuring transparency, fair water allocation, and adherence to the Water Apportionment Accord of 1991<\/b><\/strong>, the project aims to bolster trust and foster harmonious relations among provinces.<\/p>\n

The proposed project, which seeks to modernize the IBIS<\/b><\/strong>, slates to fund through the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), with PKR 500 million<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0allocates by the Indus River System Authority (IRSA)<\/b><\/strong> from its resources. Under the supervision of IRSA and with implementation duties assigned to the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA)<\/b><\/u><\/strong><\/a>, the project aims to replace manual irrigation water management systems with automated telemetry equipment at 27 strategic locations.<\/p>\n
