Mailing their letters to Santa!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n


<\/span><\/p>\n

You know an event has
\nbecome a community staple when participants \u201cgraduate\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2024 was year 5 of the
\nSanta Project, and some kids who have written letters in previous years
\ngraduated to \u201csee behind the curtain\u201d and help out with the magic.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Two kids who have written
\nletters and gotten gifts in previous years volunteered as wrappers.\u00a0 <\/span>And one family totally turned the tables \u2013 2 of
\nthe kids came to the Countdown Calendar to get treats as we were nearing the
\nclosing of the Santa writing desk.\u00a0 <\/span>I reminded
\nthem to get their letters turned in soon because they needed to get to the North
\nPole in time.\u00a0 <\/span>They understood the urgency
\nand said they would write them that evening.\u00a0
\n<\/span>A couple of hours later, the parents surprised me by reaching out to ask
\nhow the family could help.\u00a0 <\/span>Instead of writing<\/i>,
\nthey wanted to give<\/i>.\u00a0 <\/span>They \u201cadopted\u201d
\na family of letter writers and the kids helped shop to grant the wishes and
\nwrap the presents.\u00a0 <\/span>Perfect!<\/span><\/p>\n

Another sweet letter
\nwriter showed up at our door the afternoon we were frantically preparing for
\nthe community caroling event.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cHi, I am
\nhere to help.\u00a0 <\/span>Not to SING, but to help,\u201d
\nthe tween announced.\u00a0 <\/span>I panicked\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>Our living room was full<\/b> of gifts from
\nSanta, and if I allowed this child into our home, she would see it all and it
\nwould spoil the magic.\u00a0 <\/span>On the other hand\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>I was totally overwhelmed and needed to get
\nthings ready for caroling\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOh great!\u201d I told her, frantically
\ntrying to figure out what to say as I stood in the doorway to block sight of
\nthe room full of presents.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cUmmm, uhhh,
\nhow do you, ummm, feel about SANTA??\u201d I asked awkwardly.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cUmmm, I like him\u2026\u201d she
\nsaid\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

I stared at her.\u00a0 <\/span>She stared back.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, ummm, I don\u2019t <\/span>believe<\/i>
\nin him, but I like him and all.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>I would
\nnever ruin the magic for anyone else who believes in him,\u201d she clarified.<\/span><\/p>\n

Well my friend, COME ON IN
\nAND STIR THIS TWO HUGE POTS OF HOT COCOA FOR ME, PLEASE<\/i>!<\/span><\/p>\n

As she stirred and I put
\nsong sheet packets together, she explained that she wrote a letter to Santa
\nbecause her dad told her to <\/span>\ud83d\ude0a<\/span> .\u00a0 <\/span>And because
\nher little brother is a believer.<\/span><\/p>\n

We also had a kid try to
\ndebunk the Santa \u201cmyth\u201d very loudly<\/b> this year while visiting the Countdown
\nCalendar.\u00a0 <\/span>The oldest child had somehow
\nlearned or decided that Santa was not real.\u00a0
\n<\/span>However, the youngest child is a strong believer in the magic.\u00a0 <\/span>I didn\u2019t know that the eldest had \u201cfound out\u201d
\nbut I knew he hadn\u2019t written a letter, so I prodded him.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cHey, did you write a letter to Santa this
\nyear?\u201d I asked when the family came to get their Countdown Calendar treats and
\npick up the youngest\u2019s present from under the tree.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOh, Miss Suuuusan<\/i>,\u201d
\nhe said with a roll of his big beautiful eyes.\u00a0
\n<\/span>\u201cSanta isn\u2019t REALLL<\/u>.\u00a0 <\/span>I am
\nnot going to write him, because he is make-believe,\u201d he said far too loud to
\njust be telling ME, but obviously trying to get the hint to his little sister,
\ntoo.<\/span><\/p>\n

I panicked!!\u00a0 <\/span>Do not<\/b> spoil the magic right here on
\nmy front porch, kid!!!\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Luckily the Countdown
\nCalendar was in the perfect spot.\u00a0 <\/span>His sister
\non one side of the calendar, very engaged in scouring gifts under the tree to
\nsee if there was one with her name on it.\u00a0
\n<\/span>The parents were on the other side of the calendar.\u00a0 <\/span>And lucky for all of us, we share a common language
\nof American Sign Language!\u00a0 <\/span>I quickly signed
\nto them, \u201cHE IS SAYING THAT SANTA IS NOT REAL!\u00a0
\n<\/span>AND HE IS SAYING IT LOUDLY<\/i>!!\u201d.\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They joined in my
\npanic.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They pulled the little boy
\nonto the other side of the calendar to give him a stern look and a \u201cshhhhhhhhhh\u201d
\nwarning.<\/span><\/p>\n

But\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>The magic was happening\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Because you see, under the
\ntree, little sister found a gift addressed to her BROTHER<\/i>\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>Yes, Santa had delivered a gift for him, even
\nwithout a letter!\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHey!!\u00a0 <\/span>HEY<\/b>!!!\u201d she exclaimed very
\nloudly.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cLOOOOK!\u00a0 <\/span>LOOK!\u00a0
\n<\/span>COME HERE!\u00a0 <\/span>He brought you
\none!\u00a0 <\/span>He brought you one!\u00a0 <\/span>Even though you didn\u2019t write him a letter, he
\nbrought you a gift<\/u><\/i>!!!!\u201d she squealed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The once rolling eyes now
\ndarted to the tree.\u00a0 <\/span>Proud little sister
\nheld up the gift \u2013 \u201cLOOK!!!\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Well now, that<\/u> certainly
\nmade it hard not to believe, didn\u2019t it?<\/span><\/p>\n

The mom messaged me later
\nsaying: \u201cWe started to talk to him about Santa for his sister, but then by
\nChristmas Eve he was so excited and was writing a letter to Santa Claus and
\nhelping get everything set up\u2026 So, we looked at each other and said, \u201cMaybe
\ntell him later\/for next year\u201d. Christmas morning he was fine, so excited and
\nstill believing\/believable. Here\u2019s a
\nletter about your gift ! Thank you
\nagain!!!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

P.S. – I put together the Lego kit you brought me
early so you could see it \ud83d\ude42\u00a0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

So, we eeked out another
\nyear with that kid.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the instructions
\nincluded on the letter writing desk asks that children include the name and
\ncontact info for an adult in their life.\u00a0
\n<\/span>But every year some people miss that bit and mail letters with just
\ntheir name, wish list, and address.\u00a0 <\/span>In
\nyears past, we have been too busy and overwhelmed to deliver those gifts ourselves
\nso have relied on kind volunteers to do that.\u00a0
\n<\/span>But this year we took time to bring the presents to the addresses, and
\nboy am I glad we did.\u00a0 <\/span>It was amazing!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Two siblings wrote letters
\nto Santa and included only an address.\u00a0
\n<\/span>The girl had not only asked for a gift for herself, but asked if Santa
\nClaus might also, \u201cBring something my mom and dad would like to surprise them\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span>I could tell from the tone of the very
\nlong<\/i> letter that this child was testing the waters\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>They were not sure if Santa was real and were
\nlaying down some challenges to see if he could pass muster.\u00a0 <\/span>(For example, she asked Santa sneak into her
\nroom and take a picture of her sleeping in her bed, print it using the dad\u2019s
\nprinter, and leave it for her to see in the morning\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>That request was tricky (and funny) on so
\nmany levels\u2026)*<\/span><\/p>\n

Anyway, Santa wrote reply
\nletters to both children and also got gifts for the mom and dad (as much (if
\nnot more) to help extend the belief in the magic for the child as to give the
\nadults something).\u00a0 He wrote a letter to
\nthe parents too, of course <\/span>\ud83d\ude0a<\/span> .<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

But the address listed was
\nan APARTMENT\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>With a locked front door\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>David and I drove over one evening with our
\ncar full of gifts but could not get inside since the keypad thing didn\u2019t work
\nand no one was coming or going.\u00a0 <\/span>We tried
\nagain the next day, hoping to see a resident arrive or leave so we could
\ntailgate them.\u00a0 <\/span>It worked!<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

We got in the elevator
\nwith the presents and headed to the apartment.\u00a0
\n<\/span>Knocked \u2013 no answer.\u00a0 <\/span>Knocked again
\n\u2013 no answer.\u00a0 <\/span>We thought we may have
\nfailed on the second attempt.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

But no.\u00a0 <\/span>Our patience in knocking and waiting paid off
\nbecause after a bit, the mamma opened the door.\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Turns out she was home
\nalone so was hesitant to answer the door.\u00a0
\n<\/span>She saw our arms loaded with gifts through the peep hole, opened the
\ndoor, looked surprised, and gestured for us to come in.\u00a0 <\/span>We tried to explain the situation but our
\nSpanish is not great.\u00a0 <\/span>She seemed to
\nunderstand and excused herself to make a phone call.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cComing!\u201d she told us after she hung up.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

We chatted a bit as we
\nwaited.\u00a0 <\/span>Admired their sweet Christmas
\ntree.\u00a0 <\/span>She apologized for the state of
\nthe apartment (which looked good to us) and her English (which was way better than
\nour Spanish).\u00a0 <\/span>Finally, after about 10
\nuncomfortable minutes, the door opened.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The brother and sister
\nletter writers appeared and smiled when they saw the presents.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cHi!\u00a0
\n<\/span>It seems like Santa may have delivered your gifts to our house!\u00a0 <\/span>Are one of you named GIA?\u201d we asked.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The little girl got
\nexcited.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cYes!!\u00a0 <\/span>I am Gia!!\u201d and we handed her her gifts.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd is someone here named
\nMatheo??\u201d we questioned.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The boy raised his hand
\nand Gia pointed, \u201cHIM!\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

We gave him his gifts.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

And that left one pretty
\nbox in our arms.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWell, this is odd\u2026\u201d we
\nsaid.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cIt looks like there is one here
\nfor GIA\u2019S PARENTS??\u00a0 <\/span>Did you<\/b> write
\nto Santa??\u201d we asked the parents.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

And little Gia\u2019s eye LIT
\nUP<\/u>.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNO!\u00a0 <\/span>I did!\u00a0
\n<\/span>I asked for him to bring gifts for my parents!!!\u201d she exclaimed delightedly.<\/span><\/p>\n

It.\u00a0 <\/span>Was.\u00a0 <\/span>Magic.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

All
\n4 family members had stunned grins on their faces.\u00a0 <\/span>They thanked us and we said our
\ngoodbyes.\u00a0 <\/span>I hope Santa did well at
\npicking out things for the parents.\u00a0 <\/span>As he
\nwrote in the letter to them:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Dear Gia\u2019s Mom and Dad,<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

I
\nam not sure if you know this, but Gia snuck in a wish for YOU two in the
\nChristmas letter that she sent me.\u00a0 <\/span>Yes,
\nthat little cutie asked me to bring something that you like to \u201csurprise my mom
\nand dad\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Only,
\nit\u2019s been so long since I have had a letter from you, I am not really sure what
\nit is you like<\/i> these days.\u00a0
\n<\/span>Awkward\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Mom
\n\u2013 I went through a lot of things trying to decide what to bring.\u00a0 <\/span>A bag of sugar?\u00a0 <\/span>No \u2013 heavy for the sleigh, and really you
\ncould just pick that up at the grocery store.\u00a0
\n<\/span>A Lego set?\u00a0 <\/span>The ones with the
\nflowers are really pretty, but I wasn\u2019t sure if you had time to sit down and do
\nLego\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>A pair of earrings!\u00a0 <\/span>But then Mrs. Claus reminded me that I don\u2019t
\nknow if you have pierced ears or not\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

So,

\nwhat if I chose one you had already read?\u00a0

\ndidn\u2019t really want to be responsible if you happened to fall and break a leg
\n(you know how that goes).\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We delivered gifts to
\nanother family, too.\u00a0 <\/span>This address was close
\nenough to walk to, so one dark night we pulled on our winter gear, loaded up a
\nwagon with gifts for not 2, not 3, but SEVEN kids and headed out into the cold.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The home was tiny and we
\ncould see a Christmas tree through a very foggy picture window.\u00a0 <\/span>David knocked on the door and I stayed in the
\ndriveway with the wagon full of presents.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

An adult answered and David
\nasked for one of the children by name.\u00a0 <\/span>He
\nquickly came to the door and David explained that for some reason Santa had
\ndelivered the family\u2019s gifts to our home and we were here to make sure they got
\nthem.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

One little girl held the
\ndoor open as one by one I handed David a gift and he called out for the
\nrecipient.\u00a0 <\/span>There were giggles and cheers
\nas each person received their present.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

I had heard someone call
\nthe girl who was holding the door open by name so held her gift for last to up
\nthe suspense.\u00a0 <\/span>When it was finally her
\nturn, oh was she excited.\u00a0 <\/span>They thanked us
\nand as the door closed you could hear the celebration and see the joy through
\nthe big dripping window.\u00a0 <\/span>We felt like we
\nwere in a Hallmark movie.\u00a0 <\/span>It was
\nperfect.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh, there are so many
\nstories I could share.\u00a0 <\/span>The child who
\nshowed up about 3 days before Christmas and put his letter in a cubby of the
\nCountdown Calendar, letting Santa know not only was it Christmas coming up, but
\nhis birthday, too.\u00a0 <\/span>The kids who asked
\nfor world peace.\u00a0 <\/span>The neighbor who scored
\na Barbie Dream House on Black Friday and donated it, allowing us to grant a
\nwish that was way over budget for a child who has a very hard life.\u00a0 <\/span>The many, MANY donors all around the country
\nwho ordered soooo<\/i> many presents from wish lists.\u00a0 <\/span>The lovely family (led by an amazing
\npatriarch) who once again reached out and got involved in a major way.\u00a0 <\/span>The woman in her 40s who had a very rough childhood
\nand had never once gotten a gift from Santa (spoiler alert \u2013 Santa made up for
\nit this year).\u00a0 <\/span>The newborn babies who
\ngot presents and their mothers reached out to say thank you and saying how much
\nthey cried at reading Santa\u2019s letters.\u00a0
\n<\/span>The child who asked for green slippers and was delighted that they \u201cmake
\nhim taller\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span>So.\u00a0 <\/span>Many.\u00a0
\n<\/span>Stories.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Santa Project is a
\nlabor of love.\u00a0 <\/span>It consumes well over a
\nmonth of my life.\u00a0 <\/span>It is exhausting,
\nsometimes frustrating, but ever so rewarding.\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nvolunteers who wrap.<\/span><\/p>\n

THANK YOU to the neighbors
\nwho bring over casseroles and cookies and wine to ensure we are eating (and

\nfriend who translates letters and contacts parents that I cannot communicate
\neasily with.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nto Santa were mailed to the North Pole (via our house) in 2024.\u00a0 <\/span>As always, there were some funny ones, some confusing
\nones, and some that made me tear up.\u00a0 <\/span>Each
\nof those letters received a custom reply from Santa, along with a beautifully
\nwrapped gift\/gifts.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

To me, the Santa Project (and
\neverything else Kindness Activist does) is not about the numbers.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>It is about the <\/span>magic<\/u><\/i><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>But I understand that statistics are
\nimportant so will share them here:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>221 letters to Santa <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>512 packages wrapped (many kids get multiple gifts,
\nall follow the same budget)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>106.5 hours of wrapping took place <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Approximately $9,250 spent in total (including
\nwrapping supplies, paper, envelopes, and ink for letters)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Of that, $1853.30 was funded by Kindness Activist, the
\nrest by amazing donors<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>I have no idea how many hours of Santa letter writing,
\nonline shopping, \u00a0<\/span>online registry making,
\nand pacing I did this year<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>And countless<\/i> hours of love and support from my
\nmain elf, David<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cTHANK YOU SANTA!!!\u201d \u2013
\nshouted at the sky, arms flung open wide, by a 4 year old child after she
\nopened her gift on our front steps<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for bringing
\nsuch magic into our lives. We cherish the Santa letters and, most of all, I
\ncherish your friendship, kindness, and love that you\u2019ve shared with us over the
\nyears. You truly are a bright light to even the darkest situations and make the
\nworld a better place.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe kids were beyond
\nexcited to open their Santa gifts this evening! Thank you so much for bringing
\nso much joy to our families and so many others these past three years.\u00a0 <\/span>We read your letters from the past couple
\nyears which we saved in our book, \u2018Twas the Night Before Christmas and the boys
\nwere giggling at the memories.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a very special
\nmorning for both children. Thank you so much!\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDear Santa, while I was
\nreading your letter I remembered again that little girl who deep down is still
\ninside me. And sometimes I forget some things. I cried. When I read this
\nletter, I cried like I did when I was a little girl. The difference is that this
\ntime I was a happy little girl. I am sure that I will carry that with me every
\nday that God gives me in life. Thank you very much, I have been so happy. Like
\na little girl again.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Thank you very much for everything. And my
\nloves are very happy with the gifts. You are angels in our lives. May God
\nalways take care of you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for bringing so
\nmuch joy to our family and so many others.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted to express
\nmy heartfelt thanks for everything you have done for my daughter, for me, and
\nfor all those you have graciously assisted in bringing gifts from Santa

*In case you are curious, this is how Santa
\nresponded to the request to sneak into a child\u2019s bedroom, take a photo of said
\nchild sleeping, print it on the father\u2019s computer, and leave it for the child
\nto see the next morning:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNow \u2013 to your request
\nabout taking a photo of you and printing it out.\u00a0 <\/span>As a rule, I try not to disturb children as
\nthey sleep.\u00a0 <\/span>After all, I do not want to
\nwake them.\u00a0 <\/span>If they would wake up when
\nthey hear me opening their bedroom door, or hear the camera take the picture,
\nthen I would have to stay for an hour or two chatting.\u00a0 <\/span>And honestly, Christmas Eve is just soooo
\nbusy that I don\u2019t have time for that you know?\u00a0
\n<\/span>I tell you what.\u00a0 <\/span>IF I am running
\nearly (and that is very, very, very, very, very, very rare) on Christmas Eve, I
\nwill take a photo.\u00a0 <\/span>I am not sure I know
\nhow to work your dad\u2019s printer, but if I take the picture I shall try.\u00a0 <\/span>But please do not get upset if you do not see
\na picture of you sleeping because, like I said, I can only try to do it if the
\nweather has been perfect and gift deliveries in Australia, New Zealand, and
\nseveral other countries I visit before the United States of America go
\nperfectly (which rarely happens).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

This is a piece I wrote and
\npublished earlier about a child who shared graciously their gift with me:<\/span><\/p>\n

Every family does the
\nholidays differently.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the same way, every
\nfamily utilizes the Santa Project differently.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some parents sneak over
\nand get the gifts for their kids then hide them away until Christmas morning,
\nwhere they magically appear under their tree.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other kids open them in
\nthe car after they pick them up.<\/span><\/p>\n

And a FEW kids sit down
\nright on our porch and rip into them.<\/span><\/p>\n

That’s happened with 3
\nchildren this year and it is magical. <\/span><\/p>\n

Today it was Gianni. He
\nisn’t a child we know – doesn’t come to our house often. But what a kind,
\ngentle kid!! He was soooo excited.<\/span><\/p>\n

First, he saw the candy
\ncane on top of one of his gifts. Well, that in and of itself was a win.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then he opened the bubble
\ngum making kit he had asked for. Such delight! “I got watermelon!! And
\norange!!” he said happily as he announced the flavors on the package.<\/span><\/p>\n

His letter from Santa was
\non that first box he opened, so he paused in ripping off wrapping paper to
\nlisten to his mom read it. He answered Santa’s questions out loud as mom read
\nthem. <\/span><\/p>\n

When Santa got to the part
\nabout the Chupa Chups Melody Pop he had asked for, oh did he get excited. You
\ncould see the wheels in his tiny head turning – “Oh my goodness, oh my
\ngoodness – one of these other wrapped boxes must have a Chupa Chups Melody Pop
\nin it!!” you could see his brain whirring.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then the letter from Santa
\nsaid this: “I looked at your list and it made me smile. You see, I like
\nChupa Chupa melody pop candy, too! Not only does it TASTE GOOD, it SOUNDS GOOD,
\ntoo! Double the fun, right? I was going to put one Chupa melody pop in with
\nyour present, but then I got to thinking: if I like these things, and Gianni
\nlikes these things, maybe Gianni\u2019s friends like these things, too\u2026 So, instead
\nof just giving you one for you to enjoy, I told the elves, \u201cLet\u2019s give him some
\nfor his friends, too!!\u201d. So please understand, some of these are to share. Of
\ncourse, some are for YOU, it is your gift after all. But please do not eat
\nallllll of them Gianni. That would make your tummy hurt!”<\/span><\/p>\n

And he squealed with
\ndelight. THERE WAS GOING TO BE MORE THAN ONE CHUPA CHUPS!! He ripped into the
\nnext package. Nope – not candy – this one was invisible ink…<\/span><\/p>\n

Last package. The suspense
\nwas mounting… Paper off… <\/span><\/p>\n

Wait – what is that
\npeeking out the top of the box?? HE RECOGNIZED THE STICK OF THE POPS!!<\/span><\/p>\n

He opened that little box
\nto find not 1, not 2, but I think 15 Chupa Chups Melody Pops. “Gianni, do
\nyou have friends? Cuz you have a lot of these to share!!” I asked\u00a0<\/span>him. He assured me that he
\ndoes indeed have buddies.<\/span><\/p>\n

I laughed with him and
\nasked how the melody pops work as he looked through to\u00a0<\/span>see the flavors he got.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then he said, in his quiet
\nlittle voice, “Do you want one??”.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He was sharing with ME. I
\nhad to ask him to repeat because I thought I must’ve misheard him over the
\ntraffic.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Do you want
\none???”.<\/span><\/p>\n

SURE!<\/span><\/p>\n

He gave me one and I
\nstarted unwrapping it. <\/span><\/p>\n

“Here – I’ll
\nhelp!” he said as he took it from me. <\/span><\/p>\n

His tiny hands worked hard
\nto get the wrapper off. Then his tiny hands were on my lollipop. But I didn’t
\ncare. Germs be damned, Gianni was sharing his Christmas gift with ME. What an
\nhonor.<\/span><\/p>\n

He showed me how to do it
\nand I whistled and tooted a bit. Then other kids came up for gifts and
\ncountdown calendar treats, and a pantry guest arrived that needed food for him
\nand his friend (both living outside in the frigid winter air). It was time for
\nme to get back to work.<\/span><\/p>\n

I didn’t get to thank you,
\nGianni. <\/span><\/p>\n

But THANK YOU. Your gift
\nof a Melody Pop was much bigger than you could ever imagine. You shared your
