{"id":226148,"date":"2025-05-06T05:31:42","date_gmt":"2025-05-06T05:31:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/activist\/trumps-unconstitutional-presidential-war-against-yemen\/"},"modified":"2025-05-06T05:31:42","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T05:31:42","slug":"trumps-unconstitutional-presidential-war-against-yemen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=226148","title":{"rendered":"Trump\u2019s Unconstitutional, Presidential War Against Yemen"},"content":{"rendered":" \r\n<br><div>\n\n                                        \n\n\n<p>For Americans who still think that Donald Trump is an advocate of realism and restraint in foreign policy, the events in Yemen should come as a rude awakening.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the most prominent indicator enabled the president\u2019s political opponents to evade their own share of the blame for the tragic events in that country.\u00a0 Revelations that members of Trump\u2019s national security team had conducted a discussion of highly classified information about war plans in Yemen\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/damning-yemen-group-chat-reflects-040052884.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over an insecure system<\/a>\u00a0exploded in the news media last month.\u00a0 One official<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-officials-in-signal-group-chat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">, apparently National Security Advisor Mike Waltz<\/a>, had even inadvertently invited Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of the\u00a0<em>Atlantic<\/em>, to join the chat. \u00a0The resulting \u201cSignalgate\u201d scandal dominated the news cycle for the next two weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dominant focus of most news stories about the episode was both revealing and depressing.\u00a0 Critics vehemently denounced the Trump team for an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/amp\/news\/group-chat-trump-war-plans-yemen-lawmakers-react\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">egregious inability to keep the Yemen war plans secret<\/a>.\u00a0 Few journalists or members of Congress condemned the participants in the chat for planning an unconstitutional war.\u00a0 There was no hint that President Trump planned to seek a formal declaration of war as required by the Constitution.\u00a0 Instead, the principal officials intend to continue the illegal practice of waging presidential wars that has become the norm since the end of World War II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, a new phase of the conflict with Yemen was already well underway. Vice President J. D. Vance boasted to the other participants in the chat that U.S. forces had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/3\/27\/full-transcript-of-trump-teams-yemen-attack-plan-that-was-shared-on-signal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">located a \u201cterrorist leader<\/a>\u201d (i.e. a high-level military official of Yemen\u2019s Houthi rebel government) and would be taking him out.\u00a0 Indeed, the U.S. launched an air and missile attack on the apartment complex where the official was visiting his girlfriend. The collateral damage included the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/3\/27\/full-transcript-of-trump-teams-yemen-attack-plan-that-was-shared-on-signal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">collapse of the building along with extensive casualties<\/a>. Notably, very few administration critics bothered to criticize the Trump foreign policy team for such conduct.<\/p><div class=\"g g-1\"><div class=\"g-single a-5\"><a class=\"gofollow\" data-track=\"NSwxLDEsNjA=\" href=\"https:\/\/brainsupreme.co\/MACRO15\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"850\" height=\"500\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.activistpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/AP-AffiliateAd-850x500-BrainSupreme-1.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Matters have grown worse since that episode.\u00a0 On April 17, U.S. forces conducted an even larger assault on a civilian port in Yemen.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/originals\/2025\/04\/80-killed-deadliest-us-attack-yemen-huthis-say\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">This time, more than 80 people, mostly civilians, perished<\/a>.\u00a0 And once again, there was silence from critics who have denounced the Trump administration for everything from the ill-treatment of immigrants, to harassment of law firms linked to the Democratic Party, to the White House\u2019s efforts to downsize the federal bureaucracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bipartisanship about waging brutal, unconstitutional wars, though, apparently remains thoroughly intact. Given the long history of pro-war views on Yemen in both parties, one should not be especially surprised that there would be no meaningful dissent regarding Washington\u2019s current belligerence toward that country.\u00a0 When Saudi Arabia first intervened in Yemen\u2019s simmering civil war in 2015, Barack\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theamericanconservative.com\/the-administrations-crocodile-tears-over-yemen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Obama\u2019s administration gave full backing to its ally<\/a>\u00a0and the coalition that Riyadh led.\u00a0 Washington supplied weapons to the Saudi-led forces, shared military intelligence with those forces, and helped to refuel coalition warplanes.\u00a0 Most of that support continued through both Trump\u2019s first term and Biden\u2019s presidency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. meddling helped produce one of the worst tragedies in the perennially troubled Middle East.\u00a0 In the years that followed during the Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations, the people of Yemen suffered from famine, a cholera epidemic, and the chronic infliction of military casualties.\u00a0 Even when the fighting subsided from time to time, the respites were relatively brief.\u00a0 Before Trump took office for his second term in 2021, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Releases\/Release\/Article\/3937640\/statement-by-secretary-of-defense-lloyd-j-austin-iii-on-us-airstrikes-in-houthi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biden administration had launched a new wave of attacks on Houthi targets<\/a>\u00a0because the Yemini regime condemned Israel for its war crimes in Gaza and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/biden-houthis-yemen-shipping-attacks-fc5c1ed40f4e370bed81670bfdda0899\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harassed Western shipping<\/a>\u00a0passing through the Red Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Trump administration\u2019s decision to reignite full-scale warfare in Yemen is horrifying and immoral.\u00a0 To do so without a declaration of war is also unconstitutional.\u00a0 For administration critics to condemn officials for insufficient skill in concealing such illegal and immoral conduct but not to denounce the conduct itself is disgraceful.<\/p>\n\n            \n        <\/div>\r\n<br>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For Americans who still think that Donald Trump is an advocate of realism and restraint in foreign policy, the events in Yemen should come as a rude awakening.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the most prominent indicator enabled the president\u2019s political opponents to evade their own share of the blame for the tragic events in that country.\u00a0 Revelations that [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":226149,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[12022],"tags":[20271,11678,84541,3739,62092],"dealstore":[],"offerexpiration":[],"class_list":["post-226148","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-activist","tag-presidential","tag-trumps","tag-unconstitutional","tag-war","tag-yemen"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.4 -
