From protecting your tools and produce to covering your liability if someone gets hurt on your patch, let\u2019s explore exactly what you need to know when it comes to allotment insurance<\/strong> \u2013 whether you\u2019re a solo gardener or helping run an entire site.<\/p>\n

Will your own contents insurance be sufficient?<\/h2>\n

Most likely no, as your contents insurance is unlikely to cover anywhere that\u2019s beyond your own premises.<\/strong> So if you\u2019re bringing gardening equipment from home down to your allotment space, your home policy won\u2019t be enough.<\/p>\n

What insurance do you need for an allotment?<\/h2>\n

The first step is to find out from whoever runs the allotment organisation<\/strong> what cover they have in place. It may be that there is a public liability policy in place, though this isn\u2019t a legal requirement. So it\u2019s well-worth asking questions<\/strong> before you sign on the dotted line and agree to rent \u2013 or before you take out your own policy.<\/p>\n

Public liability insurance<\/a> provides individuals and businesses protection against third party claims if someone were to be accidentally injured or their property damaged on site.<\/p>\n
