{"id":222824,"date":"2025-05-04T12:33:19","date_gmt":"2025-05-04T12:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/altcoin\/skyrocketing-number-of-crypto-projects-can-be-attributed-to-launch-of-pump-fun-according-to-coingecko\/"},"modified":"2025-05-04T12:33:19","modified_gmt":"2025-05-04T12:33:19","slug":"skyrocketing-number-of-crypto-projects-can-be-attributed-to-launch-of-pump-fun-according-to-coingecko","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=222824","title":{"rendered":"Skyrocketing Number of Crypto Projects Can Be Attributed to Launch of Pump.fun, According to CoinGecko"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number of crypto projects that launched over the past four years has skyrocketed by over 1,500%, according to new data from the leading market aggregator CoinGecko.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/research\/publications\/how-many-cryptocurrencies-failed?data=9hi1crypto832news893y2\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, CoinGecko says only 428,383 crypto projects were launched in 2021 and listed on the decentralized exchange (DEX) tracker GeckoTerminal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But by 2025, that number has surged to nearly 7 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CoinGecko says much of the explosive growth is linked to Pump.fun, a Solana (<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhodl.com\/currencies\/solana\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SOL<\/a>)-based cryptocurrency launchpad that enables users to deploy memecoins without extensive technical knowledge and significant capital. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Data from crypto analytics firm Dune <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dune.com\/queries\/3756231\/6323352\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shows<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the platform has facilitated the creation of more than 10 million tokens since last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Says CoinGecko,<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMuch of this jump can be attributed to the launch of pump.fun, which simplified the process of creating tokens, leading to a flood of meme coins and low-effort projects entering the market.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But more than half of the crypto projects flopped. CoinGecko says 3.7 million of the 7 million cryptocurrencies listed on GeckoTerminal since 2021 have stopped trading and are considered failed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c52.7% of all cryptocurrencies on GeckoTerminal have failed, with the majority occurring during 2024 and early 2025.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report says 1.8 million tokens collapsed in the first quarter of 2025 alone.
