Her latest book, Christ On A Bike, published by the award winning Bluemoose Books, has been described as \u2018strikingly original and utterly brilliant\u2019. It was picked as a recommended read by Nina Pottell from Prima Magazine, who reviewed it as \u2018Black Mirror meets Tales of The Unexpected with shades of Shirley Jackson\u2019 and was recommended as a read for January by Martin Chilton, The Independent\u2019s Chief Book Critic. The last one I had was a milk chocolate cone from Kimi\u2019s in Staveley, Cumbria \u2013 absolutely incredible. And I make Brown Bread ice-cream which is amazing and a whole other story\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exercise<\/strong> \u2013 dancing, runs, yoga, long walks \u2013 it\u2019s how I clear my head and also how I work\u00a0 out stories and what my characters are doing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Music<\/strong> \u2013 takes me backwards and forwards in time.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center has-light-gray-background-color has-text-color has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#5bc955;\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#4a7c4f;\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Give five pieces of advice to your younger self?<\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Try to worry less; after the downs, there will be ups, I promise you.<\/p>\n<p>Eat less sugar and brush your teeth more and you\u2019ll have way less painful trips to the dentist<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t start smoking because you fancy that boy<\/p>\n<p>Be more confident and say yes to the chances you were offered that scared you<\/p>\n<p>Write down all the books you\u2019ve read with a couple of sentences about each because you won\u2019t remember them at all. Last week I started to read a book and eighty pages in thought, hang on, this is familiar\u2026 The advantage is I\u2019ve an exciting time ahead full of new experiences \u2013 ha.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center has-light-gray-background-color has-text-color has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#4a7c4f;\"><strong>Tell us five things that most people don\u2019t know about you<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I have a tattoo of a gecko \u2013 a reminder of when I went travelling and loved seeing them in beach huts because they ate all the bugs \u2013 and it\u2019s to remind me to go travelling again.<\/p>\n<p>Not too shabby at a triple time step<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t enjoy cooking but like making desserts<\/p>\n<p>Went to five primary schools<\/p>\n<p>Once worked above Browns in Maddox Street and Liam Gallagher kindly held open the door when I was taking out the bins while Patsy Kensit stood beside him \u2013 both were very nice.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center has-light-gray-background-color has-text-color has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#4a7c4f;\"><strong>Tell us five things you\u2019d still like to do or achieve.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I want to travel again \u2013 would love to visit New Zealand, see all our friends in Australia, and visit lots of new places<\/p>\n<p>Been suffering from rubbish sleep the last eight years \u2013 would like to be able to sleep through the night again<\/p>\n<p>Hope to have more books published<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d like The Lost Thumb to be made into a film starring Margot Robbie as the mother, and Christ On A Bike to be made into a TV series.<\/p>\n<p>If I came into a lot of money, I\u2019d set up a charity aiming to provide stable homes and mentoring for young people. I think a roof over your head, your own bedroom to go back to, and then people encouraging you and having faith in you, are so important in life.<\/p>\n<p><em>Many thanks for joining me today Orla, it was lovely discovering more about you. Mostly, when I read I do it in silence, but sometimes I fancy some music, and ambient music doesn\u2019t distract me but blends nicely into the background. I can appreciate the value of getting lost in stories, I do it all the time. I also think I should take your advice to heart about writing down a few sentences about each book I\u2019ve read. While, I do keep a list, it\u2019s online and never anywhere near me when I\u2019m buying other books, or when I pick one up to read. I think I should keep a little index book at hand at all times!  Great advice to say yes, to chances. I try to, but still have lapses when I could be braver. Is it shameful that I had to \u2018google\u2019 triple time step? For anyone else as clueless as me, it\u2019s a tap step. Making desserts, over cooking sounds good to me, I think I prefer the same. Good luck with your plans to travel, you need to see some more geckos.
