{"id":217426,"date":"2025-05-01T20:05:03","date_gmt":"2025-05-01T20:05:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/aerospace\/boeings-high-speed-vtol-concept-clears-wind-tunnel-test\/"},"modified":"2025-05-01T20:05:03","modified_gmt":"2025-05-01T20:05:03","slug":"boeings-high-speed-vtol-concept-clears-wind-tunnel-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=217426","title":{"rendered":"Boeing\u2019s high-speed VTOL concept clears wind tunnel test"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Aurora Flight Sciences, a Boeing company, has confirmed its high-speed vertical takeoff and landing (HSVTOL) concept has completed stability and control wind tunnel testing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aerotime.aero\/tag\/aurora\" title=\"\">Aurora<\/a> announced on April 29, 2025, that the 20% scale model completed the wind tunnel testing in March 2025, at a Boeing facility near Philidelphia.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company said that the test was a \u201ckey milestone in the preliminary design phase\u201d of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darpa.mil\/research\/programs\/speed-runway-independent-technologies\" title=\"\">Speed and Runway Independent Technologies<\/a> (SPRINT) program.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-1\"\/>\n<p>The SPRINT program aims to design, build, and fly an X-plane to demonstrate key technologies that enable a \u201ctransformational combination of aircraft speed and runway independence\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aurora\u2019s concept uses embedded lift fan technology and a blended wing body design to provide the scalable capability to cruise at around 518 mph (834 km\/h) and takeoff and land vertically on unprepared surfaces.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The wind tunnel test was designed to collect data to understand the low-speed handling of the concept\u2019s unique profile, particularly at the critical transition from vertical to forward flight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-2\"\/>\n<p>\u201cThis SPRINT wind tunnel test has validated our analytical estimates of the performance of the aircraft.
