Today I decided to make a parsnip and carrot pur\u00e9e for my daughter.
Parsnip is one of those forgotten root vegetables, but it\u2019s such a wonderful option for babies! Its flavor is naturally mild and slightly sweet, perfect for little taste buds. It pairs beautifully with carrot, so I thought\u2026 let\u2019s turn it into a pur\u00e9e!<\/p>\n

Parsnip<\/a> is super easy to cook (just like carrots and potatoes). It can be introduced from 4 months of age, or whenever baby starts solids.<\/p>\n

I also added a small potato to this pur\u00e9e to bring in a gentle starchy element.<\/p>\n

As for the ham<\/a>, it\u2019s totally optional. Without ham, this pur\u00e9e is perfect from 4 months. With ham, it\u2019s best to wait until baby is 6 months old. Personally, for my 9-month-old daughter, I blended the ham separately and added it to just a few portions before freezing. That way, I can offer her the veggie-only pur\u00e9e for dinner, and add some protein at lunchtime, so convenient!<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what you need to make this parsnip and carrot pur\u00e9e (with or without ham) for baby, makes 3 portions:<\/p>\n

Ingredients<\/h2>\n

For 3 servings :<\/p>\n

  • 250 g (8.8 oz) parsnip (peeled)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • 200 g (7 oz) carrot (peeled)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • 50 g (1.8 oz) potato (peeled)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • 40 g (1.4 oz) ham (from 6 months only, reduced salt \u2013 adjust quantity based on baby\u2019s age)<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n

    Preparation<\/h2>\n

    \"Parsnip\"ParsnipLet\u2019s start with the parsnip.
    It\u2019s very easy to prepare. Just like with carrots and potatoes, give it a good wash, peel it, and slice it into rounds about 0.5 cm thick (around 1\/4 inch).
    Place the slices into your steamer basket.<\/p>\n

    \"Panais\"PanaisThe carrot is just as simple to prepare.
    Wash it, peel it, and cut it into small rounds.
    Then add the slices on top of the parsnip in the steamer basket.<\/p>\n

    \"Carrot\"CarrotWe\u2019re adding a small potato to this pur\u00e9e.
    Wash it, peel it, and slice it into rounds as well.
    Add it to the other vegetables in the steamer basket\u2026<\/p>\n

    \"Potatoes\"Potatoes<\/p>\n

    Cooking<\/h2>\n

    Time to cook!
    I made this baby pur\u00e9e in the Cookeo using pressure cook mode for 9 minutes.
    If you\u2019re using a regular steamer, cook for about 12 minutes.
    Don\u2019t hesitate to check that your veggies are nice and tender before blending.<\/p>\n

    Now onto blending. As I mentioned earlier, for my 9-month-old daughter, I blend the ham separately:<\/p>\n

    1 \u2013 To give a bit more texture to her pur\u00e9es at her age
    2 \u2013 So I can add ham to some portions, but not all of them\u2026<\/p>\n

    For a 6-month-old baby, I recommend blending everything together if you\u2019re using ham \u2014 that way the pur\u00e9e stays perfectly smooth.
    If your baby is younger than 6 months \u2192 No meat!<\/strong><\/p>\n

    When blending, add some of the cooking water until you reach the desired pur\u00e9e texture.
    BLEND AWAY!<\/p>\n

    And there you have it, your Parsnip and Carrot Pur\u00e9e (with or without ham)<\/strong> for baby is ready.<\/p>\n
