them there and then spent the rest of the night worrying that they would probably get laminitis on the few blades of new grass (t\u2019was Monday so they got a small new bit of track).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77790\" src=\"https:\/\/myshetland.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_7828.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Anyway, this morning the ponies all came up saying they were hungry and I took this for a good sign that I still had some influence over them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77789\" src=\"https:\/\/myshetland.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_7839.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"\/> <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77788\" src=\"https:\/\/myshetland.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_7854.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"\/> <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77787\" src=\"https:\/\/myshetland.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_7862.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"\/><\/p>\n<p>So what to do?\u00a0 This afternoon, when they saw me in their wee paddock, they all (and even Waffle) came in to see if I was putting out some chocolate cake for them.\u00a0 There is very little on the track \u2013 it is mostly moss.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77780\" src=\"https:\/\/myshetland.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_7896.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"\/><\/p>\n<p>And it was too late for them, as I shut the gate, and gave them last night\u2019s leftover and untouched soaked hay.\u00a0 It\u2019s need to be eaten.\u00a0 I hate waste.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77779\" src=\"https:\/\/myshetland.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_7897.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Realistically, I need to decide what to do \u2013 do they all stay on the track 24\/7 and hope for the best while cutting down the soaked hay in nets to possibly nothing and only having their 50g sugar beet + balancer ration.\u00a0 This is what we did last summer and it did work and they did lose weight.<\/p>\n<p>Pros \u2013 they are out exercising eating barely nothing.<br \/>OH stops mucking out every morning.<br \/>I can go south for a weekend to see daughters.<\/p>\n<p>Cons \u2013 they could potentially break out in the night into lush grass despite prison-like fencing.<br \/>I get to muck out (poo-pick the track) for everyone 24\/7 and that is a lot.<\/p>\n<p>Or Tiddles and a fat friend comes in over night (4pm \u2013 8am) and eat soaked hay.<\/p>\n<p>Pros:\u00a0 Tiddles and fat friend would not get a full 24\/7 sugar blast.<br \/>Cons:\u00a0 They would hate it and possibly me.<br \/>Going south would be difficult.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77778\" src=\"https:\/\/myshetland.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_7902.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"\/><\/p>\n<p>So, answers on a postcard, please as they say on the telly.\u00a0 I am edging towards grabbing Tiddles and a Fat Friend for the night so they can\u2019t overeat the absolute nothingness on the track.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone
