Highs will remain very warm, in the mid to upper 80s which are several degrees above average for the end of April. <\/p>\n<p>BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For April 29th, the average high for Birmingham is 78\u00b0 and the average low is 56\u00b0. The record high is 89\u00b0 set in 1915, while the record low is 37\u00b0 set in 1992. We average 0.15\u201d of precipitation on this date and the record value is 3.44\u201d set in 1963.<\/p>\n<p>USA BRIEF: Heavy to excessive rainfall is forecast over parts of north Texas into the Ozarks today and Wednesday. Locally catastrophic flooding will be possible across portions of southwest Oklahoma. Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible from the lower Great Lakes to the southern High Plains this afternoon and evening.<\/p>\n<p>STORMY START TO MAY: A cold front will move towards Alabama on Thursday and the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase. Showers and storms should become widespread Thursday night into Friday as the front moves through the state. The Storm Prediction Center has introduces a low end \u201cmarginal risk\u201d of severe thunderstorms for Northwest Alabama Thursday evening, but with weak dynamic support the threat isn\u2019t very significant. A few storms could produce marginal severe hail and gusty winds. Rain amounts Thursday night and Friday will be in the 1\/2 to 1 inch range for most of the state.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alabamawx.com\/?attachment_id=277939\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-277939\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alabamawx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/AL_swody3-4-600x450.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-277939\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>WONDERFUL WEEKEND WEATHER: Cooler, drier air will roll into the state late Friday night, setting up a beautiful Saturday. Highs drop into the 70s over the northern half of the state with lower humidity, and temperatures drop into the 50s over much of Alabama early Sunday morning. A few colder spots over the northern half of the state could reach the upper 40s. Sunday looks mostly dry and pleasant with a high not far from 80 degrees.<\/p>\n<p>NEXT WEEK: Moisture level begin to rise early next week, and we will bring the chance of showers back to Alabama. These will be daily isolated in nature, and will occur mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will be in the 80s, lows will be in the 50s and 60s. <\/p>\n<p>WORLD TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation outside the U.S. was 116.6F at Nawabshah, Pakistan. The lowest observation was -80.1F at Vostok, Antarctica.      <\/p>\n<p>CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 108F at Rio Grande Village, TX.
