\nTwo men have been sentenced for duping victims in a \u00a3362,000 wine scam, following a Thames Valley Police investigation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nThomas Hole, aged 31, of Rectory Crescent, London, was sentenced to
\nfour and a half years\u2019 imprisonment and Ryan Fraser, aged 25, of Hemnall
\n Street, Epping, Essex, was sentenced to a total of three years and four
\n months\u2019 imprisonment at Southwark Crown Court on Friday 10 February.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nThomas Hole was convicted by majority jury of one count of conspiracy
\n to defraud following a four-week trial at the same court which
\nconcluded on 3 February.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nRyan Fraser pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud at a
\n previous court hearing in January 2016 and pleaded guilty to a further
\ncount of conspiracy to defraud on the first day of his trial on 9
\nJanuary 2017.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nBoth men were also disqualified from being company directors for 10 years.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nTwo other defendants who stood trial; Mohammed Boodhoo, aged 38, of
\nRuxley Lane, Epsom, Surrey, was acquitted of one count of conspiracy to
\ndefraud and Kenneth Fraser, aged 50, of Thornwood Road, Epping, Essex,
\nwas acquitted of one count of conspiracy to defraud.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nA company, Premier Wine Investment Limited, was set up which offered
\ninvestment in Bordeaux, fine wine. Various people were cold called and
\nwere persuaded to invest. They were told that they should leave their
\ninvestments to grow in value over a number of years which most investors
\n did, allowing the defendants to be able to use the money without being
\nimmediately detected. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nTo overcome the suspicions of their bank, a new company similarly
\nnamed which just added an \u2018s\u2019 on to Wine, was set up. The formation of
\nPremier Wines Investment Limited, in June 2012, allowed the offenders to
\n continue to convince victims to pay their money in to a new separate
\naccount with a different bank, allowing them to continue their criminal
\nactivity.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe investigation, carried out by Thames Valley Police\u2019s Economic
\nCrime Unit, identified 13 victims, most of whom were approaching or
\nenjoying their retirement.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe victims did not realise that instead of the company purchasing
\nfine wine for them, the money was being used by the defendants on
\npayments to their own bank accounts, was withdrawn in cash, was used on
\nexpensive overseas travel, on spa days, bespoke tailoring and on meals
\nat restaurants.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe only money which was spent on wine was the wine that the
\ndefendants purchased and consumed themselves. Between December 2011 and
\nAugust 2013 the defendants conspired together to defraud people by
\nmaking false, misleading and dishonest representations about the value
\nand existence of wine.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nInvestigating officer Det Con Steve Conroy, of the Economic Crime
\nUnit, said: \u201cThomas Hole and Ryan Fraser preyed upon the naivety and
\nvulnerability of potential investors when they defrauded the victims in
\nthis case. This was a crime motivated by their greed which resulted in
\nthem taking thousands of pounds of other people\u2019s retirement money and
\nsavings for themselves. Their contempt for the victims, who were mainly
\nretired or elderly, showed they had no thought for the impact on their
\nlives or the hardship they caused as a result.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\u201cThe sentences passed show that these offences are taken seriously by
\n police and the Economic Crime Unit will pursue those who offend to
