It’s been recognized as one of the best festivals by the likes of TIME Magazine, USA Today and The Washington Post.

Celebrating Indie and Local Artists

The Sidewalk Film Festival is a celebration of independent film. The festival showcases feature-length narratives, documentaries, shorts, and student films from local talent. There are also special events, such as panel discussions, Q&As with filmmakers, and parties. In addition to the films being shown, awards are given in various categories. Alabama boasts a talented local population of actors and creatives who showcase their work each year at the festival.

Event Sponsors and Locations

The 26th Annual Sidewalk Film Festival, presented by Regions Bank, is returning with a festival footprint that includes many local landmarks:

Sidewalk Film Center and Cinema

The Alabama Theatre

The Lyric Theatre

The Carver Theatre

The Alabama School of Fine Arts Dorothy Jemison Day Theatre

The Steiner Auditorium at the Birmingham Museum of Art

The mission of the Sidewalk Film Festival is to promote the art of filmmaking and to showcase the work of independent Alabama filmmakers. The festival is know to highlight many social issues and has categories dedicated to black and LGBTQ filmmakers.

For Film Enthusiasts

Sidewalk Film Festival offers a diverse selection of films that cater to every taste. From thought-provoking documentaries to heartwarming comedies to spine-tingling thrillers, there is something for everyone. Plus, many screenings include Q&A sessions with directors and cast members, giving audience members a chance to gain insight into the film-making process.

For The Kids

There is a category for family-friendly films you can choose from if you’d like to bring your kids along.
