Post-Christmas, everyone&#8217;s wallets are already running on<br \/>\nfumes, so hitting up the local burger joint for a sack of fries and a grease<br \/>\nbomb with cheese? Not happening. Instead, it\u2019s a pound of turkey, a few packs<br \/>\nof ramen, some eggs, and a bottle of Starbucks cold brew to keep me out of the<br \/>\ncoffee shop. Total? Eighty-seven bucks. No premium brands, no indulgences\u2014hell,<br \/>\neven the cheese for wrapping my dog&#8217;s pills was the bottom-shelf option.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit\">This<br \/>\nis the cost of living in America now. Inflation? Sure. But don\u2019t kid<br \/>\nyourself\u2014this isn\u2019t just bad luck or bad weather. It\u2019s policy. It\u2019s corporate<br \/>\ngluttony. It\u2019s the con that\u2019s been running so long, you\u2019d think we\u2019d wise up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit\">This<br \/>\nis why Trump won. Not because he\u2019s a savior\u2014he\u2019s not fixing anything\u2014but<br \/>\nbecause he knows how to sell outrage to people getting squeezed. The Left can\u2019t<br \/>\nseem to read the room. They\u2019re busy pretending working-class folks see<br \/>\nthemselves in Megan Thee Stallion or believe in the promises of a party that<br \/>\nditched them long ago. Meanwhile, the Republicans? They\u2019re masters of the<br \/>\nbait-and-switch: patting your back with one hand, stabbing it with the other,<br \/>\nall while clutching a Bible and grinning like they\u2019ve got your best interest at<br \/>\nheart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit\">And<br \/>\npeople buy it. Hook, line, and sinker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit\">The<br \/>\nreal kicker? Americans don\u2019t want to admit the obvious: companies are robbing<br \/>\nus blind. Eggs aren\u2019t golden now, but the guy selling them sure is. Diesel\u2019s<br \/>\nthrough the roof, and electric vehicles are still a political punching bag.<br \/>\nBeef? Forget it. Droughts, high feed costs, and cold snaps in places that<br \/>\naren\u2019t supposed to freeze have cattle farmers calling it quits. Borrowing money<br \/>\nis a nightmare with the Fed hiking interest rates, and our cattle supply is the<br \/>\nlowest since 1951. NerdWallet told me that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit\">Meanwhile,<br \/>\nUkraine\u2019s fields, once the breadbasket of Europe, are now war zones. We\u2019re<br \/>\npouring billions into a proxy war while Americans scrape together change for<br \/>\ndinner. The Military-Industrial Complex gets blank checks, and the rest of us<br \/>\nget bird flu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit\">Let\u2019s<br \/>\nbe clear: shortages started with the pandemic, sure. But when companies saw<br \/>\nthey could charge more and we\u2019d pay it, they didn\u2019t stop. Why would they?<br \/>\nGrocery chains like Kroger, Walmart, and even Target are posting record<br \/>\nprofits. They\u2019re not shy about it either. During the Albertsons merger trial,<br \/>\nKroger executives admitted to price-gouging. Bread, eggs, you name it\u2014they&#8217;re<br \/>\nplaying us, and we\u2019re footing the bill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit\">And<br \/>\nhere we are, stuck in the grind. The government doesn\u2019t have a magic wand, but<br \/>\nthey sure love to talk like they do. Trump\u2019s not bringing grocery prices down.<br \/>\nHe\u2019s already waffling, muttering about supply chains and energy production as<br \/>\nif that hasn\u2019t already hit record highs. Windmills are still his sworn enemy,<br \/>\nby the way. And the Left? Forget it. They\u2019re too busy playing nice with PepsiCo<br \/>\nand the rest of Corporate America to fight for the little guy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit\">So<br \/>\nwe shuffle along, buying crap meals to stretch the week, feeling like the boot<br \/>\non our necks is there by design. Misery is baked into the system, and hope<br \/>\nfeels like a scam. The people who promise change\u2014outsiders, reformers\u2014they\u2019re<br \/>\njust as empty as the pockets they pretend to protect. Campaign trail words blow<br \/>\naway faster than snow in a Chicago wind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit\">It\u2019s<br \/>\nJanuary, barely two weeks in, and we\u2019ve had two terrorist attacks\u2014New Orleans, and<br \/>\nLas Vegas. The weather\u2019s so off the rails, Godzilla might as well crawl out of<br \/>\nLake Michigan. And yet, here we are, patiently waiting.
