Adobe has released Photoshop 26.6<\/a>, the latest version of the image-editing software<\/a>, widely used in the entertainment industry for concept art, texture editing, and retouching renders.<\/p>\n

The release adds a new Select Details system to the AI-powered Object Selection tool, making it possible to select individual parts of a person\u2019s body or clothing in an image automatically.<\/p>\n

The Generate Image feature can now use a reference image to guide the composition of the image generated, and there are new on-canvas controls for quick color adjustments.<\/p>\n

In addition, the latest beta build of the software features a revamped Actions panel, which suggests likely multi-step edits to an image.<\/p>\n

Photoshop 26.6: new Select Details options in the AI-powered Object Selection tool<\/strong>
Photoshop 26.6 updates the software\u2019s AI-powered Object Selection tool<\/a> to make it easier to select and edit people within images.<\/p>\n

When hovering over a person, Photoshop now automatically identifies individual details that can be selected, as shown in the image at the top of this story.<\/p>\n

They can include facial features like the eyes, mouth and teeth; facial skin; hair \u2013 with facial hair and eyebrows coming up as separate details; and individual items of clothing.<\/p>\n

Once selected, the details can be edited independently of the surrounding image: for example, to quickly change the color of someone\u2019s eyes or clothes while retouching.<\/p>\n

The functionality can also be accessed via a new Select People button in the options bar.<\/p>\n

Generate Image now supports composition references<\/strong>
Generate Image<\/a>, the Firefly-powered generative AI feature rolled out in Photoshop 25.11<\/a> last year, has also been updated.<\/p>\n

As well as typing in a text prompt to guide the image that Photoshop generates, users can now upload an existing image to act as a composition reference.<\/p>\n

Photoshop then generates a new image in the style of the text prompt, but with a composition \u2013 or in the case of images of people, a pose \u2013 matching the reference image.<\/p>\n

New on-canvas controls for quick color adjustments to images<\/strong>
Other new features include Adjust Colors<\/a>, for making quick color adjustments to images.<\/p>\n

Accessible from the contextual task bar, it launches on-canvas controls for adjusting the Hue, Saturation and Lightness of colours within an image: either the six Prominent Colors that Photoshop has identified automatically, or the color selected with the eyedropper tool.<\/p>\n

The same controls in the Properties panel for Hue\/Saturation adjustment layers have also been redesigned, with larger sliders and swatches.<\/p>\n

Option to process Select Subject and Remove Background in the cloud<\/strong>
In addition, it is now possible to do the processing for the Select Subject<\/a> and Remove Background<\/a> tools in the cloud, for \u201cfaster, more precise\u201d results.<\/p>\n

Photoshop beta: reimagined Actions Panel suggests multi-step edits to images<\/strong>
Outside the stable release, the beta build<\/a> of Photoshop features a reimagined Actions panel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As well as letting you record your own macros, it now suggests five multi-step edits that can be applied to the image or previewed on the canvas.<\/p>\n

It is also now possible to search for actions \u2013 both the readymade ones bundled with Photoshop and your own custom actions \u2013 using natural-language text prompts.<\/p>\n

Pricing and system requirements<\/strong>
Photoshop 26.6 is compatible with Windows 10+ and macOS 12.0+. In the online documentation, it is also referred to as the April 2025 release or Photoshop 2025.5.<\/p>\n

The software is rental-only, with Photography subscription plans that include access to Photoshop costing $239.88\/year. <\/p>\n

Single-app Photoshop subscriptions cost $34.49\/month or $263.88\/year.<\/p>\n
