{"id":202588,"date":"2025-04-24T11:28:03","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T11:28:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/aerospace\/boeing-seeks-new-buyers-for-chinese-aircraft-amid-tariffs\/"},"modified":"2025-04-24T11:28:03","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T11:28:03","slug":"boeing-seeks-new-buyers-for-chinese-aircraft-amid-tariffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=202588","title":{"rendered":"Boeing seeks new buyers for Chinese aircraft amid tariffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Boeing has confirmed that Chinese customers are rejecting new aircraft deliveries due to increased tariffs, prompting the planemaker to offer the aircraft to other buyers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This decision follows US President Donald Trump\u2019s implementation of tariffs on international trade partners on April 2, 2025, citing a \u201cnational emergency posed by the large and persistent trade deficit.\u201d On April 9, 2025, Trump raised the tariffs on Chinese imports to the US to 145%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During Boeing\u2019s earnings call on April 23, 2025, CEO Kelly Ortberg said the company is looking for ways to \u201ckeep focused on the right products and capabilities for future\u201d in light of the current tariff environment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-1\"\/>\n<p>Ortberg also said that the input tariffs from the first quarter of 2025 were \u201cimmaterial\u201d and did not impact the planemaker\u2019s deliveries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuch of our supply chain is based in the United States and many of our imports from Canada and Mexico are exempt under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA),\u201d Ortberg said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, Ortberg did note that Boeing also uses suppliers in countries affected by the new tariffs, especially in Japan and Italy, where suppliers carry out \u201csignificant structures work\u201d on Boeing\u2019s widebody airplanes. He noted that Boeing is currently paying a 10% tariff on these parts but expects to recover those costs for aircraft that are subsequently exported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-2\"\/>\n<p>Another concern for the planemaker is the possible retaliatory tariffs that could affect aircraft delivery. Ortberg said that the only region facing delivery issues is China, where many of Boeing\u2019s customers have said they will refuse delivery due to the tariffs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Boeing planned to deliver approximately 50 aircraft to customers in China during the remainder of the year.
