As a first-generation Nigerian-American, I can assure you that the majority of us were strictly encouraged to become doctors, lawyers, or engineers. With healthy ambition and a lot of self-confidence, many of us took chances on ourselves to create lives of our own. Through all of our creative mediums, we represent the Diaspora in ways unique to us as we create new legacies for our families in the United States.<\/p>\n

Identifying as a first-generation Nigerian-American, she makes herself a key player on the scene by being the representation queer Nigerian artists need to be visible. In Nigeria, homosexuality is criminalized<\/a>, depleting the opportunity for queer creatives in Nigeria to obtain a platform and popularity for their craft.
