\n<\/a>One of
\nthe last things an investor wants to hear about is negative news
\nregarding a company that he or she owns. Such information is usually
\nproceeded by a downturn in the company\u2019s stock value, a loss in the
\ninvestor\u2019s capital, and, depending on the of the brevity of the
\ninformation, a decision on whether to keep or remove the stock from
\nthe investor\u2019s portfolio. This form of creative destruction is part
\nand parcel to the investment process, and represents an omnipresent
\nrisk which all investors must be willing to assume. But some
\nindividuals (being consciously cognizant of the nature of human
\nbeings) are able to distinguish bad news from terrible<\/i> news,
\nand use these moments of distress to realize opportunities that
\nothers remain simply unaware of.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nLike the
\ncondor circling the carcass of a dying zebra, these investing
\nscavengers patrol the market on constant alert for companies in
\ncrisis. Their aptitude for recognizing whether an entity can
\nwithstand the negative press, provides them with an insight with the
\npotential for hefty payouts, while fully taking advantage of the herd
\nmentality, which is such a predictive component of investors, in
\ngeneral. <\/span><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThis
\nmethodology will be our focus for this week, as I explain why such an
\naggressive tactic should be considered as an additional strategy
\nwithin your investing toolbox. While often being the recipient of
\nnegative news themselves, you\u2019ll learn that scavengers play a far
\nmore important role in the investment cycle than are commonly given
\ncredit for. And after being made aware of the rewards<\/i> inherent
\nwithin this role, you just might be willing to proudly proclaim
\nyourself a soon-to-be scavenger, as well.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe Propensity to Panic<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n


<\/span><\/p>\n

\nInvestors
\ntend to be a paranoid lot. Many view negative news about a stock that
\nhe or she owns as a reason to part ways with the company, as they
\ngenerally have large sums of money invested, and would like to keep
\ntheir losses within such holdings to a bare minimum. This is why you
\noften see sharp selloffs whenever negative news is reported, and is
\nthe primary reason why scavenger investors thrive within this
\nenvironment. These individuals convert this propensity to panic into
\nopportunities to bottom feed, and to purchase those distressed names
\nafter their selloff, under the belief that they will quickly rebound
\nonce cooler heads eventually prevail.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nA Surface Wound, or A Killing Blow?<\/b> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nWithout a
\ndoubt, the nature of the news being reported plays a pivotal role in
\ndetermining whether you should scavenge or not. Professional
\nscavengers often have a thorough understanding of most companies\u2019
\nfinancials, and are thus able to swiftly diagnose whether the news
\nwill have either a short or long-term effect on its growth prospects.
\nFor this reason, it pays to do your homework, and to initially
\nascertain a complete understanding of a small group of companies. As
\ntime progresses, more names should be added to your watch list, and
\ndepending on the depth of your accrued knowledge (and after fine
\ntuning your strategy through back testing), you should be
\nwell-equipped and prepared to scavenge like a vulture!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nWhat goes
\nup must inevitably come down, though the opposite of this saying
\ndoesn\u2019t always ring true. Scavenge investing is by nature a risky
\nendeavor, which is why it is seldom employed by traditional money
\nmanagers, and is normally relegated to the very fringes of the
\ninvesting community. But despite their reckless reputation,
\nscavengers actually play an important role in facilitating the demand
\nfor liquidity within the capital markets. Whether feast or famine,
\nthis strategy has the potential to undoubtedly produce large payouts
\nin very short amounts of time, which always makes the search for
\ncorporate carrion more than worth while.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
