The Trump administration has been ordered by a federal judge to rehire all the\u00a0Voice of America<\/a>, Radio Free Asia and Middle East Broadcasting Network staff for now.<\/p>\n

The judge said all congressional funding must resume to the outlets.<\/p>\n

U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth<\/strong> granted a preliminary injunction on behalf of VOA journalist Patsy Widakuswara<\/strong> and her colleagues, against former Phoenix TV anchor Kari Lake<\/strong>. Lake is the acting CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, an independent federal agency overseeing public service media networks.<\/p>\n

Lamberth wrote that the administration\u2019s decision to dismantle the agency was\u00a0\u201carbitrary and capricious.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cNot only is there an absence of \u2018reasoned analysis\u2019 from the defendants; there is an absence of any analysis whatsoever,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

He also said the Trump administration was \u201clikely in direct violation of numerous federal laws.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Trump administration\u2019s legal team had argued that it was not violating VOA journalists\u2019 First Amendment rights because it has stopped all journalism rather than singling out any individual for their viewpoint. Lamberth said he found that argument \u201ctroubling.\u201d A request for comment from the Trump administration was not immediately returned.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
