{"id":198122,"date":"2025-04-22T06:20:41","date_gmt":"2025-04-22T06:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/alabama\/truth-matters-alabamas-voter-rolls\/"},"modified":"2025-04-22T06:20:41","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T06:20:41","slug":"truth-matters-alabamas-voter-rolls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=198122","title":{"rendered":"Truth matters: Alabama&#8217;s voter rolls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">President Abraham Lincoln said, \u201cYou can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Until now, I have refrained from commenting or opening the door to counter-criticisms in response to the derogatory comments made about me and my administration by Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen. Since taking office in 2023, Secretary Allen has repeatedly mischaracterized both my tenure and the work of the professionals in the Secretary of State\u2019s Office. He has overstated his efforts in \u201cclearing up\u201d the voter rolls, inflating numbers, and presenting a misleading picture of the state\u2019s voter rolls. I\u2019ve stayed silent, not because I lacked a response, but because I believe facts speak louder than rhetoric.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">But recent statements in his Congressional testimony compel me to set the record straight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In his testimony before the Committee on House Administration\u2019s Subcommittee on Elections, Secretary Allen alleged, \u201cOur voter file, which was a bloated mess on the day I took office, is now the most accurate record of eligible voters our state has ever had.\u201d This same language appeared in a February 2025 press release from his office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Let me be clear: this statement doesn\u2019t just disparage my administration\u2014it disrespects the dedicated registrars and elections professionals who worked tirelessly to ensure our elections were secure. Many of those individuals worked in that capacity before me, and many continue to serve today. Their work helped Alabama achieve the distinction of being ranked number one in the nation in election security by the University of Southern California, the Concerned Women for Good Government, and The Heritage Foundation in 2021 for the first time in the history of the State of Alabama. This designation also led to my selection as chair of the National Commission on Election Integrity following the 2020 election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Regarding his new system, Alabama Voter Integrity Database (AVID)\u2014the state\u2019s replacement for the multi-state Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC)\u2014Secretary Allen claims it enabled the removal of over half a million ineligible voters. He further asserts that since taking office, his administration has identified more than a million names for removal or updates to their information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here\u2019s what that narrative leaves out.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div class=\"zox-post-ad-wrap\"><span class=\"zox-ad-label\">Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">AVID, as described, is a \u201cfour-pronged system\u201d that includes a cooperative agreement with the (1) Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the use of the (2) USPS National Change of Address File, the use of (3) Social Security death data, and (4) agreements with other states to identify individuals registered in multiple jurisdictions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">All four components were already in place and being used\u00a0<i>alongside<\/i> ERIC under my administration, as a matter of fact, number 1 and number 4 were introduced to the state by my administration and under the purview of the registrars. What\u2019s been presented as a new innovation is, in large part, a repackaging of longstanding procedures. One of the things that membership in ERIC provided was the identification and potential investigation of dual voting participation by registered voters in member states in the same election cycle. This is not a feature that is included in AVID. This information has been verified by the Secretaries of State who have signed MOUs with Alabama.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Let\u2019s now examine the numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On my first day in office\u2014January 19, 2015\u2014Alabama had\u00a0<b>2,992,062<\/b>\u00a0registered voters. On my last day in office\u2014January 15, 2023\u2014Alabama had\u00a0<b>3,702,689<\/b>\u00a0registered voters. During my eight years as Secretary of State, we registered\u00a0<b>2,215,229<\/b>\u00a0new voters, and\u00a0<b>1,504,602<\/b>\u00a0names were removed from the voter list. Those names were removed because the registered voter had moved out of state, passed away, or been convicted of a disqualifying felony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As of this writing, according to the Secretary of State\u2019s website, Alabama has\u00a0<b>3,769,586<\/b>\u00a0registered voters\u2014an increase of\u00a0<b>66,897<\/b>\u00a0in just over two years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If Secretary Allen truly removed\u00a0<b>500,000<\/b>\u00a0ineligible voters, the total number of registered voters would have dropped to approximately\u00a0<b>3,269,586<\/b>. And yet, the voter rolls show an\u00a0<i>increase<\/i>, not a decrease. To reach the current number, the current administration would have needed to register at least\u00a0<b>566,897<\/b>\u00a0new voters since January 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">That claim defies logic, so show the people the names.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div class=\"zox-post-ad-wrap\"><span class=\"zox-ad-label\">Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Furthermore, under Alabama law, only the state\u2019s 201 county registrars are authorized to add or remove individuals from the voter rolls, not the Secretary of State. So when Allen claims he added or removed voters, whether one or one million, to or from the voter rolls, this is being disingenuous or intentionally misleading. According to the Code and Constitution of Alabama, the Secretary of State does not have that ability or authorization to add or remove voters from the Alabama voter rolls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Between January 2015 and January 2023, Alabama averaged approximately\u00a0<b>276,000<\/b>\u00a0new voter registrations\u00a0<i>per year<\/i>. And that was during a time of active outreach by the Secretary of State\u2019s Office\u2014when we traveled to all 67 counties every year, set up registration drives at schools, parks, fairs, community events, and ran public service campaigns featuring prominent Alabamians such as Coach Nick Saban, Coach Gus Malzahn, Charles Barkley, Dr. Mae Jemison, the Women of the Alabama Legislature, Jimmy Buffett, Lionel Richie, President Donald Trump and many others across television, radio, and digital media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It strains credibility to suggest that this administration more than\u00a0<i>doubled<\/i>\u00a0that average, without launching any similar, large-scale voter registration initiatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Quite simply, the math does not add up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">The truth matters\u2014not only to preserve the integrity of the record but to honor the public servants who worked faithfully to keep our elections accurate, secure, and fair. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">Misrepresenting their efforts and distorting the facts for political narrative serves no one\u2014not the state, not the voters, and certainly not the truth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- CONTENT END 1 -->\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Abraham Lincoln said, \u201cYou can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.\u201d Until now, I have refrained from commenting or opening the door to counter-criticisms in response to the derogatory comments made [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":198123,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[11763],"tags":[31439,64873,7633,3889,76318,38386,76319,5477,42926,76320],"dealstore":[],"offerexpiration":[],"class_list":["post-198122","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-alabama","tag-alabamas","tag-election-security","tag-matters","tag-rolls","tag-secretary-of-state-john-merrill","tag-secretary-of-state-wes-allen","tag-secretary-of-states-office","tag-truth","tag-voter","tag-voter-integretiy"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.4 -
