{"id":19665,"date":"2025-01-09T15:44:16","date_gmt":"2025-01-09T15:44:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/business\/finance\/musk-examines-how-to-oust-starmer-as-uk-prime-minister-before-next-election\/"},"modified":"2025-01-09T15:44:16","modified_gmt":"2025-01-09T15:44:16","slug":"musk-examines-how-to-oust-starmer-as-uk-prime-minister-before-next-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=19665","title":{"rendered":"Musk examines how to oust Starmer as UK prime minister before next election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Unlock the White House Watch newsletter for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description\">Your guide to what the 2024 US election means for Washington and the world<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"article__content-sign-up-iframe close\" scrolling=\"no\" id=\"signUpIframe\" data-prev-url=\"\/register\/in-article-sign-up?ft-content-uuid=dd4b066c-30a1-4ce4-a95e-82c334a740cf&amp;newsletter-id=65b8fec772badb00166eafc6\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>Elon Musk has privately discussed with allies how Sir Keir Starmer could be removed as UK prime minister before the next general election, according to people briefed on the matter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/stream\/fdf71598-69ee-4801-a704-df53f01ef286\" data-trackable=\"link\">Musk<\/a>, the world\u2019s richest man and key confidant of US president-elect Donald Trump, is probing how he and his rightwing allies can destabilise the UK Labour government beyond the aggressive posts he has issued on his social media platform X, the people said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis view is that western civilisation itself is threatened,\u201d one of the people added.<\/p>\n<p>Musk has sought information about whether it might be possible to build support for alternative British political movements \u2014 notably the rightwing populist Reform UK party \u2014 to force a change of prime minister before the next election, according to associates.<\/p>\n<p>In the UK parliamentary system, prime ministers wield power because they lead the party with the most MPs.<\/p>\n<p>Several prime ministers in recent decades, including Sir Tony Blair and Boris Johnson, have won big majorities at elections, only to exit mid-parliament because of their waning popularity.<\/p>\n<p>The chief executive of Tesla and SpaceX, who has been appointed by Trump to co-lead a project to rein in US government spending, has taken a keen interest in British politics over the past six months, and made increasingly strident criticism of Starmer\u2019s government.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past week he has demanded a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/948682f5-dc90-4b80-ae54-7ee765aa46dd\" data-trackable=\"link\">national inquiry into historic grooming cases<\/a> involving sexual exploitation of girls by gangs of mainly British-Pakistani men in several UK towns and cities.<\/p>\n<p>Musk has accused Starmer, a former director of public prosecutions in England and Wales who tackled child sexual abuse, of being \u201ccomplicit\u201d in the rape of Britain.<\/p>\n<p>He has described Jess Phillips, the safeguarding minister, as a \u201crape genocide apologist\u201d after she rejected a request by Oldham council for the Home Office to hold a Whitehall-led inquiry into the grooming scandal in the Greater Manchester town.<\/p>\n<p>Starmer has strongly rejected Musk\u2019s criticisms of his time as a prosecutor. He said on Monday that those \u201cspreading lies and misinformation\u201d were not interested in victims but rather \u201cthemselves\u201d. He told LBC radio that he would be seeing Musk this month, and planned to travel to the US to attend Trump\u2019s inauguration in Washington.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no desire to go to war with Elon Musk and I\u2019m not going to,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Starmer, by contrast, is not expected to attend Trump\u2019s inauguration.
