The company also says that <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/121161\">iOS 18.4.1<\/a> \u201caddresses a rare issue that prevents wireless CarPlay connection in certain vehicles.\u201d Additionally, the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/121011\">enterprise release notes<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/120283\">macOS 15.4.1<\/a> promise improved reliability when installing macOS updates, and TidBITS Talk readers note that it fixes a bug in macOS 15.4 that <a href=\"https:\/\/talk.tidbits.com\/t\/apple-releases-ios-18-4-macos-15-4-and-other-x-4-os-updates\/30642\/57?u=ace\">prevented selecting a custom wallpaper color<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For the remaining updates\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/121162\">iPadOS 18.4.1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/106336\">tvOS 18.4.1<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/121164\">visionOS 2.4.1<\/a>\u2014Apple identifies no specific changes beyond fixes for these security vulnerabilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A bug in CoreAudio (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cve.org\/CVERecord?id=CVE-2025-31200\">CVE-2025-31200<\/a>) allowed processing an audio stream in a maliciously crafted media file to result in code execution.<\/li>\n<li>A vulnerability in the Return Pointer Authentication Code (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cve.org\/CVERecord?id=CVE-2025-31201\">CVE-2025-31201<\/a>) enabled an attacker with arbitrary read and write capabilities to bypass Pointer Authentication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/122400\">security release notes<\/a>\u00a0for each update use one of the company\u2019s standard phrases: \u201cApple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals on iOS.\u201d Although there is no concrete information, the combination of that phrase and Apple\u2019s credit to Google\u2019s Threat Analysis Group, known for investigating state-sponsored cyber activities, suggests that the vulnerability has been exploited through spyware employed by state-level intelligence agencies.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unlikely that attacks exploiting these vulnerabilities will quickly become widespread, but I still encourage updating soon, in case those with access to spyware expand their targeting before the updates are broadly installed.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apple has released targeted updates to five of its current operating systems, primarily to address a pair of security vulnerabilities that have been exploited in the wild.
