Producers include <cite class=\"e person\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/encyclopedia\/people.php?id=144120\">Y\u016bsuke Terada<\/a><\/cite>, <cite class=\"e person\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/encyclopedia\/people.php?id=224678\">Y\u016bki Katayama<\/a><\/cite>, and <cite class=\"e person\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/encyclopedia\/people.php?id=116671\">Akane Taketsugu<\/a><\/cite>.<\/p>\n<p>A preview of the film <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/news\/2024-05-24\/annecy-reveals-on-gaku-our-sound-director-kenji-iwaisawa-new-film-hyakuemu\/.211127\">screened<\/a> at last year&#8217;s Annecy International Film Festival in June as part of the festival&#8217;s Work in Progress lineup. The festival described the story:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nTogashi is born to run. As a kid, he is naturally gifted and wins every 100-meter race without effort. But in sixth grade, he meets Komiya, a transfer student who is full of determination but lacks technique. In teaching him, Togashi gives Komiya a new purpose: to win no matter what. Years pass by, Togashi and Komiya meet again as rivals on the track and reveal their true selves.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><cite class=\"e person\">Uoto<\/cite> (<cite><cite class=\"e anime\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/encyclopedia\/manga.php?id=25925\">Orb: On the Movements of the Earth<\/a><\/cite><\/cite>) launched the <cite><cite class=\"e anime\">Hyakuemu<\/cite><\/cite> manga in <cite class=\"e company\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/encyclopedia\/company.php?id=88\">Kodansha<\/a><\/cite>&#8216;s <cite class=\"e anime\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/encyclopedia\/manga.php?id=24256\">Magazine Pocket<\/a><\/cite> app in November 2018 as <cite class=\"e person\">Uoto<\/cite>&#8216;s first series, and <cite class=\"e company\">Kodansha<\/cite> published the manga&#8217;s third compiled book volume in August 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Iwaisawa previously directed <cite><cite class=\"e anime\">ON-GAKU: Our Sound<\/cite><\/cite>, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/news\/2012-08-31\/animated-film-adaptation-of-hiroyuki-ohashi-ongaku-manga-announced\">adaptation<\/a> of <cite class=\"e person\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/encyclopedia\/people.php?id=186309\">Hiroyuki Ohashi<\/a><\/cite>&#8216;s &#8220;<cite class=\"e anime\">ON-GAKU<\/cite>&#8221; manga. Ohashi announced the film project in 2012, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/news\/2018-07-18\/hiroyuki-ohashi-ongaku-anime-launches-crowdfunding-to-finish-film\/.134380\">launched<\/a> a crowdfunding campaign on the <cite class=\"e company\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.animenewsnetwork.com\/encyclopedia\/company.php?id=16483\">Makuake<\/a><\/cite> website in July 2018.
