In my experience, Google Chrome works the best. Some of my clients have used Firefox and don&#8217;t have issues&#8230;but Chrome still seems to work the best for using QBO. DO NOT USE Microsoft Edge or Apple&#8217;s Safari as QBO does NOT &#8220;play nice&#8221; with those 2 browsers and will be &#8220;glitchy&#8221; while trying to work in the online software.<\/p>\n<p>Although you will get the best performance out of QBO using it in Chrome&#8230;it will get &#8220;glitchy&#8221; at times! If it starts acting &#8220;weird&#8221; or you can&#8217;t get it to open&#8230; do the following:<\/p>\n<p>Clearing your cache and cookies should be done at least once a month&#8230;even if you are not having any issues! It will help in keeping QBO working properly =)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Tip 3 for Using\u00a0QuickBooks Online for Churches: COA<\/h2>\n<div class=\"text_image_block text_image_right text_image_both_cleared text_image_floated\">\n<div class=\"ImageBlock ImageBlockCenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/chart-of-accounts.html\" title=\"Go to Chart of Accounts for a church\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/images\/xbuildbluesquares.jpg.pagespeed.ic.a-lWVS2LoP.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"93.8356164383562\" alt=\"Build Blue Squares\" title=\"Build Blue Squares\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/images\/buildbluesquares.jpg\" style=\"width: 150px; height: auto\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Use your own unique chart of accounts!<\/p>\n<p>You can start with a SIMPLE chart of accounts QBO template for CHURCHES like the one I have available (<em>see the box below<\/em>), but it should be your &#8220;starting point&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p>You should make all accounts that you are not using currently&#8230;inactive. Then add accounts that you need for your particular church. <\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind a few &#8220;tips&#8221; while creating those accounts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the universal numbering system! See this article for more on that numbering system:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/chart-of-accounts.html\">Chart of Accounts for a Church<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Do not use &#8220;names&#8221; for your account titles such as Verizon, Planning Center, QBO. Let me stop here and explain<br \/>\nthat a fund is something that is \u201ccontinual\u201d (used year after year) and has<br \/>\nincome coming in and expenses going out. See more on &#8220;funds&#8221; in this article: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/fundaccounting.html\">What is Fund Accounting?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then you can use the Customer field to<br \/>\ntrack events, fundraisers, trips, etc. within that fund\/ministry such as a &#8220;<em>Men&#8217;s Breakfast<\/em>&#8221; event.\u00a0<b> NOTE:<\/b> you can change the name of that &#8220;Customer&#8221; field to &#8220;donor&#8221; or multiple other titles in the Advanced Settings in QBO (<em>see image above<\/em>)&#8230;but for this article I will refer it to as the &#8220;Customer&#8221; field.<\/p>\n<p>QBO uses 2 different looking Customer &#8220;fields&#8221; in Income\/Deposit and Expense\/Check windows, so I will show you how to use that &#8220;extra&#8221; tracking in both.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text_image_block text_image_center text_image_both_cleared text_image_not_floated\">\n<div class=\"ImageBlock ImageBlockCenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/images\/xDonor-QBO-Deposit.png.pagespeed.ic.3Y70Y3UqVx.png\" width=\"630\" height=\"319.76717112922\" alt=\"Donor QBO Deposit\" title=\"Donor QBO Deposit\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/images\/Donor-QBO-Deposit.png\" style=\"width: 630px; height: auto\"\/><\/div>\n<p>In QBO deposits, the &#8220;Customer&#8221; field is always there by default&#8230;BUT it is titled &#8220;<b>Received From<\/b>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>To track that &#8220;Customer&#8221; in an expense, you have to &#8220;turn on&#8221; that option in the settings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text_image_block text_image_center text_image_both_cleared text_image_not_floated\">\n<div class=\"ImageBlock ImageBlockCenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/images\/xDonor-Setting-expense.png.pagespeed.ic.yFGRRISwEA.png\" width=\"630\" height=\"249.359720605355\" alt=\"Donor QBO Settings Expenses\" title=\"Donor QBO Settings Expenses\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/images\/Donor-Setting-expense.png\" style=\"width: 630px; height: auto\"\/><\/div>\n<p>To turn on that function \u2026go to account settings in the &#8220;gear wheel&#8221; in the top right corner on your QBO screen and go to Expenses\/Expenditures (<em>depending how you have your QBO set up<\/em>) and make sure the &#8220;<em><b>Track expenditures and items by Customer\/Donor<\/b><\/em>&#8221; is turned <b>ON<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text_image_block text_image_center text_image_both_cleared text_image_not_floated\">\n<div class=\"ImageBlock ImageBlockCenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/images\/xDonor-QBO-Expense.png.pagespeed.ic.k1ipn4y8F3.png\" width=\"630\" height=\"319.76717112922\" alt=\"Donor QBO Expenses\" title=\"Donor QBO Expenses\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/images\/Donor-QBO-Expense.png\" style=\"width: 630px; height: auto\"\/><\/div>\n<p>That Customer\/Donor field will now appear in Expenses and Checks.<\/p>\n<p>Then you can simply run a <b>Statment of Activity for Donors<\/b> and &#8220;Customize&#8221; it to F<b>ilter<\/b> the &#8220;Customer\/Donor&#8221; you want to run a report on. I don&#8217;t use &#8220;Tags&#8221; at all. I use &#8220;Locations&#8221; when I have to track 2 or more separate &#8220;locations&#8221; in the same church QBO file.<\/p>\n<p>The reason I do not use those &#8220;tracking&#8221; features is their inability to apply them &#8220;line by line&#8221; like you can with Classes and Customers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Locations and Tags have to be applied to whole transaction.<\/p>\n<p>With most churches, I run into issues with that 99% of the time =(\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Any transaction that applies to multiple &#8220;locations&#8221; or &#8220;tags&#8221; cannot be assigned to just one and I end up doing journal entries to &#8220;separate&#8221; out the location&#8230;.which is too complicated to get into here.<\/p>\n<p>So don&#8217;t use Locations, Tags, or even &#8220;Projects&#8221; &#8230;unless you are proficient in QBO and journal entries =)\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text_image_block text_image_right text_image_both_cleared text_image_floated\">\n<div class=\"ImageBlock ImageBlockCenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/accountantbesideyou.com\/collections\/churches\/products\/quickbooks-online-for-nonprofits-churches?aff=3\" onclick=\"return FIX.track(this);\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/images\/xlisalondonqbo3d.png.pagespeed.ic.DxdBnENLRz.png\" width=\"75\" height=\"104.203125\" alt=\"Lisa London QBO\" title=\"Lisa London QBO\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.freechurchaccounting.com\/images\/lisalondonqbo3d.png\" style=\"width: 75px; height: auto\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>For more tips on using QuickBooks Online for Churches, considering purchasing Lisa London&#8217;s book:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/accountantbesideyou.com\/collections\/churches\/products\/quickbooks-online-for-nonprofits-churches?aff=3\" onclick=\"return FIX.track(this);\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">QuickBooks Online for Nonprofits Accounting Guide<\/a>.
