{"id":194674,"date":"2025-04-20T12:37:11","date_gmt":"2025-04-20T12:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/aerospace\/five-facts-about-copenhagen-airport-on-its-100th-birthday\/"},"modified":"2025-04-20T12:37:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-20T12:37:11","slug":"five-facts-about-copenhagen-airport-on-its-100th-birthday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=194674","title":{"rendered":"Five facts about Copenhagen Airport on its 100th birthday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Copenhagen Airport (CPH) in Denmark is celebrating its 100<sup>th<\/sup> birthday after first opening its doors on April 20, 1925, laying the foundations for the\u00a0title as one of the world\u2019s oldest aviation hubs. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is an incredible journey for an airport that began its life with a wooden house, a grass pitch and a single route to Berlin in Germany.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Copenhagen Airport, the flight to Berlin from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aerotime.aero\/tag\/denmark\" title=\"\">Danish capital<\/a> took seven hours, with two stops required and apparently a \u201cgood deal of patience\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-1\"\/>\n<p>\u201cThey made their way past Gedser and Warnem\u00fcnde, and it was not unusual for the pilot to sit in an open cockpit while the passengers sat in the back, trying to keep warm at speed,\u201d a spokesperson for the Copenhagen Airport said on April 20, 2025. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) joined in the celebrations with a video posted on its social media channels showing staff handing out small cakes with the Danish flag on them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CPHAirports?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CPHAirports<\/a> turns 100! Happy Birthday, CPH \u2013 here\u2019s to many more,\u201d the airline wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-2\"\/>\n<p>In 2024, Copenhagen Airport welcomed 29.9 million passengers and recorded its best ever December with 2.2 million\u00a0customers, a year-on-year increase of 11%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Also last year, 5.7 million transfer passengers travelled via Copenhagen, representing a 19% year-on-year increase.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have upgraded from field and mud to being among Europe\u2019s most attractive airports. We have gone from 252 passengers in the first year to almost 30 million in 2024. And from one route to Berlin to connections across the globe \u2013 now with jet engines, air conditioning and coffee,\u201d the airport said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-3\"\/>\n<p>It added: \u201cToday, Copenhagen Airport is an international transport hub, but we never forget where we came from. History is our runway \u2013 the future is our departure. Thank you to all passengers, partners and colleagues at the airport for 100 years.\u00a0We look forward to the next 100.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" Europe.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The airport\u2019s original terminal was designed by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen and is recognized as a protected heritage site.
