Alix and Sasha love when persimmon season begins! I often serve it to them in small pieces for breakfast, but this time I wanted to try something different with a lovely persimmon-apple combo.<\/p>\n<p>Persimmons can be astringent if not ripe enough (that dry mouth feeling is very unpleasant). For this recipe, choose a ripe persimmon (variety: persimmon\/fuyu), soft but not overly mushy. Cooking the fruit also helps remove any astringency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If your persimmon is very ripe and not astringent, you can skip cooking it and only cook the apple. The persimmon will add a naturally gelled texture and a concentrated sweet flavor to the compote.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients<\/h2>\n<p>For 1 to 2 servings (about 180 g):<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>1 ripe persimmon<\/strong> (persimmon\/fuyu variety \u2013 approx. 175 g of flesh)<\/li>\n<li><strong>1 small apple<\/strong> (such as Golden \u2013 approx. 150 g peeled)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Preparation of the persimmon and apple compote<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:17px\">Wash, peel, and dice the <strong>apple<\/strong> into small pieces.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size:17px\">Peel the <strong>persimmon<\/strong> and roughly chop it. (If you prefer, you can also cook them in a saucepan with a little water over low heat, but steaming preserves nutrients best.)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size:17px\">Once the fruits are cooked, place them in a blender.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size:17px\">Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If needed, add a bit of water to adjust the texture to your baby\u2019s preference.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And that\u2019s it! Your persimmon and apple compote is ready. This compote is soft, naturally sweet, and baby is going to love it.
