On a golden April Friday, a group of us from Discover Adventure laced up our boots and headed to the South West Coast Path for a very special reason: to walk a stretch of the Jurassic Coast alongside one of our incredible participants, Tracey.<\/p>\n

Tracey is currently undertaking an extraordinary challenge \u2013 walking the entire coastline of Britain, in memory of her late wife, Angela. It\u2019s a journey of love, loss, and healing, and she\u2019s doing it with her trademark humour, strength, and purpose, raising funds for cancer charities along the way. When we heard she\u2019d be passing through our local patch, it was a no-brainer: we knew we wanted to be there,<\/span> we had to join her.<\/p>\n

Viv also joined us \u2013 Tracey\u2019s close friend and fellow DA trekker \u2013 and Frank (four-legged morale booster), making it a proper DA Family moment. For us, it was about more than a day out of the office \u2013 it was about showing up for someone in our community, walking side by side with purpose, and reconnecting with the ‘why’ behind what we do.\"PHOTO-2025-04-04-10-07-35\"<\/p>\n

From the moment we met her, it was clear this wasn\u2019t just a walk \u2013 it was something much more profound. For some of the team, like Mim, that feeling hit instantly. \u201cSpending time with Tracey and hearing how the trip came about was incredibly emotional,\u201d<\/em> she shared. \u201cShe\u2019s using this journey \u2013 the terrain, the weather, the long stretches of time alone \u2013 to process her grief. That\u2019s such a brave thing to do.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

That bravery and determination struck a chord with many of us. \u201cIf I\u2019m honest,\u201d<\/em> Terri admitted, \u201cI felt a little intimidated and in awe. Tracey is so focused and confident. I\u2019m not sure I\u2019d have the same strength after losing someone so dear.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t just Tracey\u2019s endurance that left a mark \u2013 it was her openness, her sense of humour, and the sheer amount of kindness she\u2019s encountered along the way. As we walked, stories began to flow. Jazz recalled how Tracey described the generosity of strangers \u2013 people offering her a warm meal, a bed for the night, or simply a moment of connection. Mim was especially moved by one moment: \u201cShe told me about a stranger she stayed with who later donated \u00a31,500 to her fundraising page \u2013 one pound for every mile she\u2019d walked so far. People are amazing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

These weren\u2019t rehearsed tales or grand gestures \u2013 just quiet, genuine moments that reminded us how powerful simple kindness can be. \u201cIt was reassuring,\u201d<\/em> Sam said. \u201cWith all the negativity in the world, it was special to hear how many people have given something for nothing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Of course, this being a DA day out, there were also plenty of laughs, a fair bit of breathless uphill climbing, and a celebratory dance thrown in for good measure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Proclaimers dance above Durdle Door to mark Tracey hitting 2,000 miles was absolutely my highlight,\u201d<\/em> Rob grinned. \u201cThat, and the sea breeze \u2013 there\u2019s nothing like being back on the coast.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

While this particular walk didn\u2019t follow the same route as our Jurassic Coast Weekend Challenge<\/strong><\/a>, the setting was every bit as spectacular \u2013 and just as meaningful. For many of us, the coastline holds a special place in our hearts. \u201cI was brought up on the coast of Cornwall,\u201d Rob reflected. \u201cAnywhere coastal is one of my happy places. I also used to live and work near Osmington Bay, so it was a bit of a nostalgia walk for me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Terri put it simply: \u201cMy happy place is a walk at the seaside. Fresh sea air, seabirds overhead, and unending ocean views \u2013 I find it calming and thoughtful.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Chezzy, who completed part of the walk, agreed: \u201cThe weather, the scenery, the smell of the sea \u2013 I\u2019m proud of what I did, and it made me want to push myself to do more.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

That spirit of encouragement and challenge is exactly what Tracey says first drew her to Discover Adventure \u2013 and what\u2019s kept her coming back. As Terri explained, \u201cTracey told us how nervous she was to book a group trip alone. But seeing how loyal our community is \u2013 how many people come back again and again \u2013 gave her the confidence to go for it. Now, she wants other solo travellers to know how transformative these experiences can be.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Walking with Tracey gave us a powerful reminder of why we do what we do \u2013 and what makes the DA Family so special. It\u2019s not just about the challenge; it\u2019s about the connection.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t feel like a job when you get to spend a day like this,\u201d<\/em> Sam said. \u201cBlue skies, brilliant company, walking and talking the miles away \u2013 it was the best kind of Friday.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Mim echoed that thought: \u201cWe deal with so many people, and sometimes the day-to-day can feel like a lot. But then someone like Tracey comes along and lifts us all up. She reminds us why we\u2019re here.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

For Chezzy, the feeling was simple and strong: \u201cProud. I feel lucky to work for a company that closes the office so we can go and support someone like Tracey. That\u2019s what the DA Family is.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
