The move, pending approval, would raise the price of Forever stamps from 73 cents to 78 cents \u2014 approximately a 6.8% increase \u2014 on July 13.<\/p>\n<p>The USPS has raised prices on its Forever stamp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uspsoig.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/reports\/2024-03\/risc-wp-24-004.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">19 times<\/a> since 2000 but insisted in a news release that they&#8217;re still \u201camong the most affordable in the world.\u201d The latest price increase proposal would be the first to go into effect since July 2024, when the Forever stamp rose from 68 cents to 73 cents.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ca-pcu-inline  has-ad-icon    money-embed-ca\" data-pcu-render-at-=\"2025-04-15T17:47:15Z\" id=\"ap92776-ww\">\n<div id=\"ap92776-ww-indicator\">\n<div id=\"ap92776-ww-indicator-wrapper\"><span id=\"ap92776-ww-text\">Ads by Money. We may be compensated if you click this ad.<\/span><span id=\"ap92776-ww-label\">Ad<\/span><span id=\"ap92776-ww-icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Ads by Money disclaimer\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.money.com\/prd\/image\/image\/15240\/163e573e-202a-466a-b8b8-93da65db2b13.png\"\/><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/money.com\/usps-stamp-prices-shipping-costs-2025\/\">Taking a step back from tradition<\/a>, stamp prices held steady in January after the agency credited earlier price hikes for boosting revenue and pinned hopes on cooling inflation to rein in costs. However, in the release, the Postal Service said that price increases are necessary to achieve \u201cfinancial stability\u201d and stay on track with its 10-year <a href=\"https:\/\/about.usps.com\/what\/strategic-plans\/delivering-for-america\/\" target=\"_blank\">Delivering for America plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Assuming regulators approve the proposal, the upcoming changes would reflect just one of <a href=\"https:\/\/prc.arkcase.com\/api\/prc-dockets\/filing\/downloadFile?fileId=207868&amp;inline=true\" target=\"_blank\">five planned price hikes<\/a> slated through 2027.<\/p>\n<h2>Stamp prices on the rise (among other things)<\/h2>\n<p>Stamps aren\u2019t the only thing facing a price increase at the USPS this year. Other <a href=\"https:\/\/about.usps.com\/newsroom\/national-releases\/2025\/0409-usps-recommends-new-prices-for-july-2025.htm#:~:text=WASHINGTON%2C%20DC%20%E2%80%94%20The%20U.S.%20Postal,insurance%20when%20mailing%20an%20item.\" target=\"_blank\">proposed increases for postage include<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Postage for 1-ounce metered letters<\/strong>: 69 cents to 74 cents<\/li>\n<li><strong>Postage for domestic postcards<\/strong>: 56 cents to 62 cents<\/li>\n<li><strong>Postage for international postcards<\/strong>: $1.65 to $1.70<\/li>\n<li><strong>Postage for 1-ounce international letters<\/strong>: $1.64 to $1.70<\/li>\n<li><strong>Additional-ounce price for letters:<\/strong> 28 cents to 29 cents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But guess what? There\u2019s one price <em>reduction<\/em> of 12% for postal insurance. Small wins are still wins.<\/p>\n<h2>What&#8217;s next for the USPS?<\/h2>\n<p>The price proposal announcement comes at a particularly uncertain time for the Postal Service. In November, the agency <a href=\"https:\/\/about.usps.com\/newsroom\/national-releases\/2024\/1114-usps-reports-fiscal-year-2024-results.htm\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> a net loss of $9.5 billion for its 2024 fiscal year, up from a $6.5 billion net loss the year prior.<\/p>\n<p>Former U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy resigned in March as President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, suggested that the agency could be privatized (a move that has <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/us-postal-service-privatization-trump-musk-dejoy-692d56e701f3853af4ce914832a33124\" target=\"_blank\">raised many questions<\/a> surrounding legality).
