The first beer that the brothers brewed was <em>Altbier<\/em> and now the brewery is set to release many of these classic beers to beer fans of Portland over the coming year as part of the brewery\u2019s <strong>40 Years of Cheers<\/strong> campaign.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate this historic time that took place some forty plus years ago, Widmer Brothers Brewing will be opening up its beer vault. About every three months the brewery that is now part of Tilray Brands will release another classic beer from Widmer Brothers Brewing. The brewery\u2019s 40 Years of Cheers will see the re-release of four iconic Widmer beers, known collectively as the \u201cBeers Through the Years,\u201d will roll out in succession throughout the year, pouring exclusively on draft at select Portland area pubs, bars and  restaurants. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brewpublic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Kurt-Rob-Widmer-at-Multnomah-Whiskey-Library-e1651380624550.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"769\" src=\"https:\/\/brewpublic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Kurt-Rob-Widmer-at-Multnomah-Whiskey-Library-1024x769.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-82757\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kurt and Rob Widmer at Multnomah Whiskey Library during the 2015 Craft Brewers Conference when it last visited Portland, Oregon.(photo by Cat Stelzer)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Widmer Brothers\u2019 40 Years of Cheers has kicked off with <em>Altbier<\/em>, the first beer brewed and sold by the brothers\u00a0in 1984.\u00a0<em>Altbier <\/em>combined Rob and Kurt Widmer\u2019s love of beer and affinity for homebrewing; the original batches were brewed with a mismatched variety of reclaimed equipment\u2014a retired dairy tank, shrimp cooker and a 1970 Datsun pickup \u201cborrowed\u201d from their dad\u2014in what is now known as Portland\u2019s Pearl District. <\/p>\n<p><em>Altbier<\/em> is a traditional German-style ale known for its amber hue, assertive bitterness and clean, roasted finish.
