This little pint-size jar holds what will be strawberry vinegar once the flavors meld together in about a week. As some of you know, I am trying to find ways to use food odds and ends. While the strawberry tops I\u2019m using in this will still find their way to the trash, I will be getting all the nutrients and flavor from them that I can before that happens. I only had 10 strawberries, so the small jar size was perfect. <\/p>\n

I cleaned the strawberries well, then made strawberries & cream<\/a> for my work meals<\/a>. While cutting the tops off those strawberries, I left just a little extra of the tops on knowing I was going to use them to make this strawberry flavored vinegar. <\/p>\n

I used apple cider vinegar for this. I can\u2019t wait to see how it turns out!<\/p>\n

Strawberry Vinegar<\/strong><\/p>\n

Make 1 pint size jar.<\/em><\/p>\n

Tools & Ingredients<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

1 jar with lid (plastic or glass lid is best)<\/p>\n

parchment paper if the lid is metal (because the vinegar will make the lid rust)<\/p>\n

ACV (with the mother) or another flavor of vinegar<\/p>\n

Post-it & pen<\/p>\n

strawberry tops (cleaned well)<\/p>\n

  1. Be sure the jar and lid are cleaned well. The strawberry tops should already be clean, but if not give them a good rinse and pat dry with a towel. <\/li>\n
  2. Add the strawberry tops to the jar.<\/li>\n
  3. Pour vinegar over the strawberries to just cover them.<\/li>\n
  4. If the jar lid is not glass or plastic, put parchment paper over the top of the jar. I did this by using a piece cut bigger than the jar opening. If the lid is not metal, don\u2019t do this.<\/li>\n
  5. Screw the jar lid onto the jar.<\/li>\n
  6. Trim the parchment paper if necessary.<\/li>\n
  7. Write yourself a note on the Post-it with a date a week from now. Attach to the jar. <\/li>\n
  8. Place on a shelf or in a cupboard.<\/li>\n
  9. In a week you should be able to strain the liquid into a glass container. Again, you will not want to cover with a metal lid.<\/li>\n
  10. This will stay good for a long time. Consider how long any vinegar keeps for.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    • I might experiment with other berries, and maybe other fruits. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Serving Suggestions:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      • This can be drizzled over salad as is.<\/li>\n
      • Or you can mix with a healthy oil and drizzle that over the salad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
