There are still some questions, though no matter how you slice it, I feel bad for this guy.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-american-flight-attendant-assaulted-on-las-vegas-flight\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"american_flight_attendant_assaulted_on_las_vegas_flight\"\/>American flight attendant assaulted on Las Vegas flight<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p>This incident initially dates back to December 31, 2023, when former American flight attendant Tillman Robinson was working flight AA2470 from Charlotte (CLT) to Las Vegas (LAS). He had been at the airline for 25 years, and had a spotless record up until this point.<\/p>\n<p>While working this flight, he was attacked by a 25-year-old passenger. The passenger was cited for assault, and later completed anger management, which resulted in his record being wiped clean.<\/p>\n<p>As Robinson describes this incident, \u201che starts putting his finger in my face, he starts yelling expletives, then he pushes me, and then he starts taking swings.\u201d One day after the flight, Robinson was suspended, and then 10 months later, he was ultimately fired, a decision that shocked him.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson states that his union has been working to get him rehired, but so far, efforts haven\u2019t been successful. Robinson believes he was penalized for defending himself during the altercation, saying, \u201cit starts with asking people to step back, move away, turn around, and walk away when they are trying to strike at you.\u201d He says he used all the training he was provided by the airline to protect himself. The 51-year-old is now worried about how he\u2019s going to pay his bills, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/support-tillman-robinson-a-flight-attendant-in-need\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GoFundMe<\/a> has even been set up for him.<\/p>\n<p>American released the following statement about his incident:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe take these matters incredibly seriously. After conducting a thorough internal investigation, it was determined the former team member acted in a manner inconsistent with our expectations and defined policies \u2014 prior to the altercation and throughout.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"724\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.onemileatatime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/American-737-MAX-Miami.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-244702\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This incident happened on a December 2023 flight<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-no-matter-how-you-slice-it-i-feel-bad-for-this-guy\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"no_matter_how_you_slice_it_i_feel_bad_for_this_guy\"\/>No matter how you slice it, I feel bad for this guy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p>Based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsoctv.com\/news\/local\/flight-attendant-fired-10-months-after-attack-by-passenger\/HLYGLPHGWNEXBOZMCK56CJ2FPA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">watching an interview with Robinson<\/a>, he seems like a really great guy. I actually asked an American flight attendant friend about him, and she knew of this story and had flown with him before, and had nothing but nice things to say. Robinson even has his pilot\u2019s license, and described the job of being a flight attendant as \u201ca blessing, to be able to take advantage of a career in aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1019006\/OMAAT_InContent --><\/p>\n<p>I think it goes without saying that the big question \u2014 and the reason he was fired \u2014 involved how he defended himself. It\u2019s clear that the passenger was the aggressor, and that Robinson tried to initially deescalate the situation. However, it\u2019s perhaps a little concerning how Robinson said in the interview \u201cwhat am I supposed to do, am I supposed to take it, would that have made American Airlines feel better?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also noteworthy how in a statement, American claimed that his actions were in a manner that was inconsistent with the company\u2019s policies, both \u201cprior to the altercation and throughout.\u201d So we don\u2019t know how he responded, but clearly American didn\u2019t like how he reacted to an aggressive passenger.<\/p>\n<p>No matter how you slice it, I feel bad for this guy. He had a good performance record at the airline, and he had been there for 25 years. Flight attendants have dealt with so much abuse from passengers over the years, and they don\u2019t deserve that.<\/p>\n<p>No matter how much training you receive, it\u2019s hard to know how you\u2019re going to react in a situation where you\u2019re being assaulted for the first time in your career (or maybe even life).
