Spotty Afternoon Storms in Alabama<\/title><\/p>\n<h2>Spotty Afternoon Storms for Northeast and Central Alabama, But Calmer Weekend Ahead<\/h2>\n<p>Scattered showers and thunderstorms have developed this afternoon across northeast and central Alabama, especially along and east of I-65. These storms are mostly below severe limits but are producing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lightning<\/li>\n<li>Gusty winds up to 30\u201340 mph<\/li>\n<li>Small hail (pea to dime size)<\/li>\n<li>Brief downpours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In <strong>northeast Alabama and southern middle Tennessee<\/strong>, areas like <strong>Huntsville, Scottsboro, Fort Payne, and Rainsville<\/strong> have seen some stronger cells. Soils remain saturated from recent rain, and <strong>minor flooding or ponding of water is possible<\/strong>, especially in low-lying areas of <strong>Cullman, southern Marshall, and southern DeKalb counties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Further south, showers and occasional storms have developed in parts of <strong>central Alabama<\/strong>, including areas around <strong>Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Clanton, Montgomery, and Auburn<\/strong>. These are expected to remain below severe thresholds but could bring brief gusty winds and lightning.<\/p>\n<p>All storm activity should diminish after sunset. An upper-level ridge will move in from the west tonight, clearing skies and allowing temperatures to drop into the upper 30s to lower 40s. Winds will shift to the north-northwest around 5\u201310 mph with occasional gusts to 15 mph.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking ahead:<\/strong> A beautiful spring weekend is on tap.
