Things have been piling up in my to-blog folder, and the time has come to tidy up.<\/p>\n<p>First up, and most relevant here, is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3VV-juFFVxs\">webinar<\/a> on how to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genesys-pgr.org\/\">Genesys<\/a>. It\u2019s long, admittedly, but well worth it if you have anything to do with genebanks. Genesys can accommodate phenomic data, of course, and coincidentally here\u2019s a set of training materials on how to do <a href=\"https:\/\/orgprints.org\/id\/eprint\/54984\/\">characterization and evaluation of plant genetic resources<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Webinar: How to Use Genesys PGR - Part 1\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3VV-juFFVxs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The botanic gardens community has its own Genesys-type thing, called <a href=\"https:\/\/plantsearch.bgci.org\/\">PlantSearch<\/a>, and there\u2019s been an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgci.org\/news-events\/new-plantsearch-communication-facility\/\">upgrade<\/a> recently that readers here might be interested in. All that\u2019s missing for the trifecta is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S1433831925000174\">herbaria<\/a> \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Finally, you might want to combine provenance data from Genesys (or indeed the <a href=\"https:\/\/agro.biodiver.se\/2025\/04\/finding-ones-way-through-the-forest-of-forest-resources-databases\/\">forest genetic resources databases<\/a> we blogged about earlier this week) with different features of the environment, right? Right. So let me quickly point to new spatial datasets on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-online\/mapping\/discoveries-and-revelations-exploring-the-world-soils-250m-layers\">world\u2019s soils<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/land-water\/events\/gaez5\/en\/\">agro-ecological zonation<\/a>, the extent of <a href=\"https:\/\/essd.copernicus.org\/preprints\/essd-2025-133\/\">cropland in Africa<\/a>, and \u2014 why not? \u2014 the global distribution of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchsquare.com\/article\/rs-6201916\/v1\">cattle, goats, sheep and horses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!-- .entry-content --><\/p>\n<p>\t <!-- .entry-footer -->\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A bit of a roundup of data stuff today.
