The headline may sound like a joke but that\u2019s basically what departing RSM Australia CEO Jamie O\u2019Rourke told Australian Financial Review<\/em> in an interview<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Mid-tier accounting firm RSM Australia will not join its rivals in picking off partners from the struggling big four firms as it believes the competitive workplace culture fostered at the top four could damage its carefully curated ethos<\/strong>. [Emphasis ours]<\/p>\n

O\u2019Rourke said the firm\u2019s focus on measuring the performance of teams over individuals \u201ccreates a culture where people are looking out for each other\u201d, as does its preference for developing its own leaders over hiring externally for senior positions.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Rourke called his firm\u2019s culture \u201cquite unique\u201d and went on to brag about complimentary comments he hears from hires who\u2019ve worked at other firms. \u201cWhenever anyone joins us from another firm, I always ask them, \u2018what\u2019s the first thing you notice about RSM?\u2019 And the common reply is that: \u2018everybody\u2019s trying to help \u2026 whereas where [they have] come from, it\u2019s actually quite competitive internally\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sounds to us like he\u2019s laying it on a little thick. But a quick glance at r\/AustralianAccounting unearths several positive \u2014 or at least neutral \u2014 comments about working at RSM versus Big 4<\/a>.<\/p>\n
