href=\"https:\/\/forum.blackmagicdesign.com\/viewtopic.php?f=22&amp;t=218668\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fusion Studio 20.0<\/a>, the latest version of its 3D compositing software.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a sizeable update, adding a complete new deep compositing toolset, and support for multi-layer EXR workflows, 180 VR formats, and Cryptomatte matte ID data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also available inside DaVinci Resolve 20<\/strong><br \/>A version of the Fusion toolset is included in DaVinci Resolve, Blackmagic Design\u2019s colour grading, editing and visual effects software, version 20 of which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cgchannel.com\/2025\/04\/blackmagic-design-releases-davinci-resolve-20-0\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has also just been released<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>DaVinci Resolve gets more promotional support than Fusion Studio \u2013 at the time of writing, the Fusion Studio 20 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/products\/fusion\" target=\"_blank\">product webpage<\/a> still lists features from version 17 \u2013 so the video above shows the Fusion page within DaVinci Resolve 20.0, but the new features should be the same.<\/p>\n<p class=\"full-width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Studio 20.0: complete new deep compositing toolset<\/strong><br \/>The main change in Fusion Studio 20.0 is support for deep compositing.<\/p>\n<p>Deep compositing, long supported in VFX-focused apps <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.foundry.com\/nuke\/content\/comp_environment\/deep\/deep_compositing.html\" target=\"_blank\">like Nuke<\/a>, makes use of depth data encoded in image formats like <a href=\"https:\/\/openexr.com\/en\/latest\/InterpretingDeepPixels.html\" target=\"_blank\">OpenEXR<\/a> to control object visibility.<\/p>\n<p>It simplifies the process of generating and managing holdouts, and generates fewer visual artifacts, particularly when working with motion blur or environment fog.<\/p>\n<p>Fusion Studio\u2019s implementation makes it possible to import deep images and inspect them in a viewer or \u2013 by converting them to point clouds \u2013 within the 3D environment.<\/p>\n<p>For manipulating deep image data, a new set of nodes, shown in the screenshot above, make it possible to merge, transform, resize, crop, recolor and generate holdouts.<\/p>\n<p>It is also possible to convert between deep and standard images, and to convert deep images to points.<\/p>\n<p>For exporting data, it is now possible to render deep images from the 3D environment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"full-width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cgchannel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/250407_FusionStudio20_MultiLayer.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-166279\" multi-layer workflows and Cryptomatte data<\/strong><br \/>The update also introduces full support for multi-layer workflows, with all of Fusion\u2019s nodes now supporting multi-layer images such as PSDs or layered EXRs.<\/p>\n<p>Users can preview image layers in the viewer, and access and manipulate layers independently inside any node, removing the need to generate multiple separate renders of a source file.<\/p>\n<p>Fusion also now natively supports Cryptomatte ID matte data in EXR files.<\/p>\n<p>Supported as standard in other VFX tools, <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.foundry.com\/nuke\/content\/reference_guide\/keyer_nodes\/cryptomatte.html\" target=\"_blank\">Cryptomatte data<\/a> makes it possible to isolate individual objects or sub-objects in rendered images, and manipulate them independently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"full-width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cgchannel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/250407_FusionStudio20_VectorWarp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-166280\" based vector warping toolset<\/strong><br \/>Other new features include a vector warping toolset, for image patching and effects like digital makeup or mapping an image onto a deforming surface: for example, a logo onto clothing.<\/p>\n<p>The toolset is optical-flow-based, so it can also be used for more general tasks: other suggested uses include motion-vector-based noise reduction.<\/p>\n<p workflows for virtual reality content<\/strong><br \/>Users creating virtual reality content get support for 180 VR workflows.<\/p>\n<p>Key tools, including PanoMap, the spherical stabilizer, LatLong patcher, 3D VR camera and the 3D viewers have been updated to support 180\u00b0 as well as 360\u00b0 angles of view. <\/p>\n<p>It is also now possible to render 3D scenes to VR 180.<\/p>\n<p class=\"full-width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cgchannel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/250407_FusionStudio20_DomeLight.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" dome light, updated text tools and performance improvements<\/strong><br \/>Other changes include a new 3D scene Dome Light, making it possible to use 360\u00b0 HDRI images as background environments and to light scenes more realistically.<\/p>\n<p>The text tools have been extended, with the release adding a new MultiText tool and updating the Text+ tool to make it possible to control the layout of on-screen text more precisely.<\/p>\n<p>Workflow improvements include the option to set a start frame for compositions, and to search for tools based on effects category.<\/p>\n<p>Performance improvements include GPU support in the PanoMap and spherical stabilizer tools.<\/p>\n<p>For pipeline integration, the update moves Fusion Studio to ACES 2.0 and OpenColorIO 2.4.2, newer versions of the color-management standards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pricing and system requirements<\/strong><br \/>Fusion Studio 20.0 is available in public beta for Windows 10+, Rocky Linux 8.6 and macOS 14.0+.
