The outlet says the API would be used to move the data into a cloud platform \u2014 potentially a third-party one \u2014 to serve as the \u201cread center\u201d of the agency\u2019s systems.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">DOGE\u2019s hackathon plan includes pulling together \u201cdozens\u201d of IRS engineers in DC to build the API, writes <em>Wired<\/em>. Among the third-party providers the department has reportedly discussed involving is Palantir, a company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/features\/2018-palantir-peter-thiel\/?sref=M8H6LjUF\">known for its vast data collection<\/a> and government surveillance and analysis work. DOGE is aiming to finish the API work in 30 days, a timeline one IRS employee told <em>Wired<\/em> is \u201cnot technically possible\u201d and would \u201ccripple\u201d the IRS.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\"><em>Wired <\/em>says the DOGE operatives orchestrating the project are 25-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/staffer-with-elon-musks-doge-amplified-white-supremacists-online-2025-02-07\/\">Gavin Kliger<\/a> and health-tech CEO Sam Corcos. On March 1st, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2025\/03\/01\/doge-irs-tax-records-benefits\/\"><em>The Washington Post<\/em> reported<\/a> that Corcos had pushed the agency to lift restrictions it had placed on Kliger\u2019s access to its systems, and proposed an agreement to share IRS data across the government.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.padilla.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/Letter-to-IRS-DHS-Re-6103-Privacy-Concerns.pdf\">March 14th letter to the IRS<\/a> from Senator Ron Wyden and others suggests the agency didn\u2019t relent, as it praises their \u201crightful rejection\u201d of DOGE\u2019s requests.
