A particularly<br \/>intense corridor of storms has developed in the vicinity of <strong>Mobile, Alabama<\/strong>, where extremely high<br \/>rainfall rates have been observed. The Downtown Mobile (KBFM) ASOS reported an astounding<br \/><strong>3.17 inches in just one hour<\/strong>, with radar indicating persistent convection continuing over the metro<br \/>area and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n<p>These storms are being fueled by a strong low-level jet transporting rich Gulf moisture into the region,<br \/>combined with favorable upper-level support and instability that remains in place despite the onset of evening.<br \/>With rainfall rates as high as <strong>2 to 4 inches per hour<\/strong>, and a slow-moving frontal boundary still to the<br \/>west, additional rainfall totals of <strong>4 to 6 inches<\/strong> are likely through the late evening hours, with isolated<br \/>heavier amounts possible. The result will be a continuation\u2014and possibly worsening\u2014of significant, life-threatening<br \/>flash flooding, especially in urbanized areas and poor-drainage zones.<\/p>\n<p>Forecast guidance, including the HRRR and high-res ensemble models, supports the potential for continued<br \/>training of storms into southern Alabama, including Baldwin and Mobile counties, and into the western Florida<br \/>Panhandle.
